A Summit

A Summit's Overview...

Walking up past
.... the old building
..........with it's window panes
....given way,
up through the gate
....that lies half open
..........half down on the ground ---
years of hanging on
....given way to being
too tired to stand on its own...
....moving slowly upward...
each pace a little shorter
than the last
each one less measured
....until I reached the
..........top of the hill.

An old tree
leaning...
....withered...
limbs twisted
..........some toward the sky...
others closer to ground
....each showing signs
..........of too many seasons
bearing down upon them.

A granite rock
...........exposed...
starched of color
...........by the heat
smoothed by wind and rain
......lies partially exposed
...........stolidly held by the earth
lies only paces away.

The grass
....lying toward
..........the downward side
brown, yet knee length tall
swirls and leaves a brushing sound
....for my ears...
..........my senses to hear and feel.

Thus it is
the way it is
at the top of the hill.

I don't know
....if you saw this view---
I don't know
....if you ever reached this height...
but if you did
....you didn't disturb
.........the nature of the summit.

Neither did I.

I arrived here
long ago while on a journey
And in it's memory
I thought to bury
........a written thought
under the largest root
...............of the tree.

It's no longer there.

Either misplaced
robbed, or just taken away
..........by someone/something
more mystical than I can imagine
...........................my thoughts
....hopelessly gone...
..........not to return.

So I've climbed
....back to reach this place...
...........this moment.
With more
....knowledge than before
...............but not enough
.....to befit the journey.

I look at the tree,
the granite stone,
and see and hear the grass
and it reminds me...
...............of then.

Looking down into
....the valley on the
...............other side
I wonder why
....I didn't explore there?
(Surely I must have seen it before!)
Turning back
....looking down the
..........washed out path
that I ventured--
I see a figure...
....slowly advancing my way.

Is it you?
Or is it him?

One will extend
....the adventure...
the other...
....will take me... where?

I will wait
on the summit...
on the rock
surrounded by the grass
underneath the withered tree.

Too weary
....too tired
........to drink in again
............the nectar of life
........and gaze out
....in wonder.

I don't feel
........the need
to explore the valleys
or the mountaintops
............beyond.
I don't want
........to feel...
if the feeling
........is lost in the
....reaching out
of the touch.

And the darkness
......of the evening
............is upon me.

You are an early riser! One of the first to check in for the day. I am going to have to come back and study on this a bit.
It is breathtaking.[i/]

Piameter,

I want you and everyone who reads this, to study this one.

This isn't my usual, kind, easy, make you feel warm poem. Even though it flowed from me in the writing,(by that I mean it was written in the first sitting... with no changes) there is a different depth to this that each person needs to take in and explore.

Some words, some phrases, have double meaning.

Each is pointed to make you think about something in your own life. We all reach goals, we dream of being the best. It's what we do with it once we achieve it. Then, what we do beyond that.

I will be very interested in what people take from this work. unlisted

Fly, thank you... it pleases me to know you think that about it.
Warm hug? Yes, please, if you don't mind.

huny, bittersweet? Yes, you can certainly think that way. We are of an age to where we can look at this, and call it bittersweet. I wonder how it will present itself in someone younger. Will they walk away feeling the same?
Thank you as always for stopping by, my dear friend.
Stay warm, unlisted
