Longest LTR you have had?

In this day of marriages falling apart and people not wanting to fully commit....what is the longest you have been a marital relationship? and, if no marital relationship, the longest long-term relationship?

and, what seemed to have been the downfall for the relationship???

Just curious...

alice593 - I am sorry about your loss. It is tough when we lose our loved ones definately. Thanksgivings are not quite the same for me anymore for a similar reason, but I do make the most of it for my family. Communication is something that we all strive to perfect, but are not always perfect with.

I was married to a great gal for 26 years, until diabetes finally took her. We were married on May 1, 1976, and she died February 12, 2003. Our first date was February 14, 1975. Valentines day is no longer what it was to be, especially since she died two days before it. I try to make it special for my present wife, of almost one year. In otherwards, I try not to show my broken heart on that day. I try to be the same person I was all my life, but after she died, I lost a big part of me. When with other women, I make too many mistakes when I say things. They end up taking some of the things I say wrong. And believe me, it really hits me hard when that happens.

13 years....7 good and 6 bad. She screwed around on me when I was overseas, spent our savings and ran up all the credit cards. And I took her back, like an idiot.

13 years together, 10 of them married. The downfall? He developed a drug addiction that he has chosen not to fight.

I think I've covered this elsewhere...

18 years and still going! I think those that get married young get married for the wrong reasons (we got married for the lust and sex). By the time we figure out who we really are, we have kids and unbreakable commitments. It's very difficult for two people to stay together for a long time and not grow apart, or to start looking at each other like siblings.

BUT.... I can't imagine a different life!
