"If ands and buts were but candy and nuts...

then we would all have a Merry Christmas."

My first husband said this all the time. It was one of those sayings that would stick for-ever engrained in my head. I am not sure where he came up with that phrase...but, it is somewhat a powerful statement.

Do you have any idea if this was an original statement of his???

What do you think about the statement?????

Just curious....

I have heard that or something similar. It reminds me of this saying:

"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride."

artistforexploit - Me neither. It would be interesting to trace back this saying's roots.

Inominate563 - lol... you too???? hmmm.... Yes, I do suppose many think about their choices in life and wish for things to have been just a little bit different, but knowing that it can't possibly change. True - live and learn. And, move forward!!!

it's not an original of his. i can't even remeber the first time i heard it. but i like to use it too. I think too many people regret or worry about choices that they have already made and can't change. Live and learn

It sounds like an old English saying, but I don't know that it is.
