Occasionally a word takes my fancy but the object or act it describes seems wasted on such a pretty set of syllables.
One obscure example is the word "Lammergeier". I think this is a beautiful word. But the Lammergeier is a rather crumpled looking raptor - it means "Lamb Vulture" in German. I think it should therefore be reassigned to a dolphin, tree or the act of making love under the stars.
Do other people know of words that are wasted on what they describe?
