To See or Not to See

Bifocals

A sure sign of age as we know it

I just had to get some new glasses.

Bifocals

Let me educate everyone here not familiar with the term.

I really didn’t have a problem reading, but trusting my eye doctor’s advice, which I’m sure he learned at some conference in Vegas I got a pair.

They don’t just suck!

They fucking suck!

It seems they “degrade” you peripheral vision.

OK….degrade was his word….it’s pretty much non existent.

You see with bifocals you have to look directly at whatever you want to see for it to be in focus. Let me explain. Driving in the car and looking straight ahead….you know how you glance in the rearview mirror for that brief instant….blurred vision. Watching TV….you know how you get comfortable….not possible. Reading a book….you know how you scroll your eyes down the page….no….can’t do it without moving you head. As a matter of fact, moving your head is the real key here.

Let’s do a test. Look at your computer and focus on the word “file” in the upper left hand corner. Now without moving your head, look at the time in the lower left hand corner. Can you see it just fine? Me too….with my old glasses! Not with the fucking bifocals!

Now try this. Get in a crowded room with a lot of hotties (or hunks for you ladies). You know how you “glance” here and there. Checking out the cleavage, or the nice butt, the smile or…just whatever…..NO….not possible with bifocals. That was the deal breaker in my book.

I have spent the last two days giving these damn things the good old collage try. This is not a small life change….it’s a total reinvention. I spend 90% of my time trying to focus.
Before I maybe had a problem 1% of the time.

I took third grade math.

I’m taking the bifocals back.

It sucks that it sucks. Somehow the doc must have known what he was talking about, we would hope. Perhaps its a clarity versus convienence and practicality thing.

Well now that explains why anyone wearing them looks around slower, drives slower, reacts slower, and is just generally being slowed down! I`d get a second and even a third opinion

LOL
I went through the same thing. Besides I was outraged that my young whippersnapper eye doctor had the gall to suggest that I was at *that age*
So I still wear contacts, and can't read the fine print.

well...if I have to sign any fine print legal contracts I'll let my lawyer do the reading

oh I forgot to mention the sheer joy of going down stairs with bifocals. Can't see a bloody thing and look like an elderly woman holding on for dear life.

I never had to wear glasses at all until I got glasses for my uneven eyeballs last year. But I can't imagine reading and having to move my head to do it. I'm so sorry. I hope you have a proper burial for those glasses.

Do you have the blended bi-focals? I found them much worse as far as blind spots than regular bi=focals. I have been wearing them for a long time now. I know contacts are available. I might give them a try. Bifocals really suck for working at the computer and plaing the piano. The distance is just not right for bi-focals.

yes they were blended and I'm trading them in for a new eye doctor who understands the term "needs"

Did you get the line or no line bi-focals? i have problems with my vision, both near and far, and throw in a lil stigmatism in there, and there's a melting pot.. OH not to mention the glare from the lights at nite, just set off all sorts of bells n' whistles in my brain... ..

Hmmm, they might try to get you to keep em', "gotta try them out for more than a couple of days" sort of reaction. But stick to you're guns, see what he says.. Might have to do the two sets of glasses thing, and that my friend is a true pain in the rear...

Take care of Yourself,

me~c

Now won't last forever, so use it wisely~c
