Sorry..... NOT Part II

Yesterday, while peeking through the windows of redlipsprincess I saw a post with the above title. The first thing that caught my attention was "Multnomah County" which is where I happen to live. So I read the comments that had been left already, and thought I would add this post real quick to add a few things. Here is the post from the lovely red lips:

Multnomah County Circuit Judge Julie Frantz told Shane Stant at a Thursday hearing that the law does not allow an assault conviction to be expunged.

Kerrigan had opposed the request, saying in a letter that to grant it "would send a message to others that such a crime can ultimately be swept under the rug."

Stant, 34, said he made the request because the Navy's special warfare unit will not accept anyone with a felony conviction.

This summer, his lawyer filed court papers asking for Stant's conviction to be set aside, saying Stant had lived a law-abiding life since leaving prison and needed a break to achieve his dream of joining the SEALs.

In court Thursday, Stant asked for the expungement so that "my case doesn't overshadow who I am as a person."

For those of you who don't recognize the name, Shane Stant was the "body guard" of Olympic figure skater Tanya Harding. He is the one who clubbed Nancy Kerrigan (who went on to medal) just before the Olympic tryouts way back when. (i forget what year) So to answer your "type of assault" question DTand5Speed, it wasn't a bar room brawl, but more of a premeditated attack on an individual who had worked her ass off to represent her country in the winter Olympics.

I think that an assault charge given for this offense should not only be expunged for NO reason, but especially not for this reason. To me, Mr. Stant apparently has no respect for the individuals who have already made it into the SEALS the honorable way. That being... without any priors.

Thank you for clarifying the trash behind the crime, Tires. I agree...lethal injection...uh...I mean, NO expungement. What a disgrace these idiots were/are to our society.

I agree with you. He has no place in an elite unit.
