Browsing the bloggy files on Friday night...(again) argh!

Yup I'm here after a day of paperwork, research and development I've had some time to just read and look.

We all tend to do the same, there are our favorite bloggers who we stop by to read some profound and new post. Checking in to catch a glimpse of their moods, state of minds and general progression in life.

I don't get it, the top bloggers, if they actually made money blogging they'd be wealthy beyond and wouldn't be here (I think). That is if they aren't insanely rich to begin with and need something to do, so they blog.

I began doing it out of winter doldrums, reaching out, finding answers and connecting as do most. BUT here's the thing.....

Do any of you when stopping by someones new entry quickly exit because the post is just a big run on sentence with no real beginning and no end in sight?

Hell I'm not the most literate middle aged female but I hate trying to read when it's all jumbled together....I get incredibly bored, not to mention speed reading is out of the question it's just a big blur.(and my eyes are getting baaaaad)!

Could one of the TOP bloggers please post a "how to blog effectively" for those just starting out? My dementia is out of control or I'd do it myself...besides I've been a little pr-occupied with getting some lovin lately and DAMN I'm not givin that up for being the "Emily Post" of blog posts!

TM,
You are not far off base at all. A post that is roughly 400 to 450 words is a great length and requires less scrolling (or no scrolling at all at higher screen resolutions).

I'd recommend the use of the word count feature in your word processing software to write and edit rather than just starting on-line in a Post form box... then, consider sleeping on it and making another run at reading/editing the next day.

Then again, I am guilty of getting long winded sometimes and simply understand that some people enjoy a longer, particularly erotic post.
Hugs,
Cozy

Cozy....I don't mind long winded, just do those thoughts in paragraph form. (you do...not to worry) But some here forgot how to construct concise thinking that others can comprehend. Writing should not be an art-form only open to those that are creative, it should be practiced by the human species as a whole.

What happened to "English 101" was it replaced by "home-skills 101"? and now people learn only how to run the washing machine instead of composing thoughts? Geez.....frustrating!

There are 3 rules for effective blogging (or prose in general, for that matter:

1. Tell them what your going to tell them
2. Tell them
3. Tell them what you just told them.

Nothing to it!!

Tennis: you'll notice that most of the top bloggers are visually effective (pics, etc.) with good writing thrown in most times and also lots of sex.... Also, most are long time posters with a large circle of links/friends....

Yeah Art...I got why the big guns are the "big guns" I've tried on many occasion to emulate their styles...but alas, there is only ONE "tennismaiden" and I'm comfortable with her doing her thing.

It's the other less notable bloggers I'd like to see learning and growing...they just don't get it...not my place to tell them...oh well ces't la vie !

Unfortunately, many people use the open nature of a blog to test their "artistic freedom". Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but since they don't have an editor telling them to clean it up ...

Unless a person is truly writing only for themselves, they need to remember that the purpose is communication. Sexyfit's post on this subject is truly what is taught in J101, and a good reminder even for an old editor like me. I wish the site would take some of the better posts like this one of hers and make it part of a FAQ or something.

I completely agree Blueguy! Why didn't you tell me you do editing? Soooooo...how am I doing? Did I fail or pass?

WAIT...don't answer that, I don't want to know! Argh....

My dear, your picture was what attracted me initially, but your writing is what keeps me coming back.

*dashes through on a frantic blog-skimming race*

I am sooo with you on this one, TM

Yes, *holds up hand* I admit I am guilty of coming face-to-face with a solid block of unpunctuated uncapitalised text and backing away hastily .....
