Wet Dreams, Nightmares, Fantasies...What Do They Mean?

I once read that all dreams are supposed to fall into three categories, a fear, a desire, or a fantasy. Sounds simple enough, but is it really?

I can say I do not recall having a nightmare since I was really young and unclear about vampires. I guess that was a fear. So why don't I dream about vampires now? Well, probably because I realize they are really just attorneys. Think about it...they suck you dry, after meeting one you wish you were dead, and they really do have to be back in their coffin before sunup. A joke I guess, but really, why no nightmares as an adult?

As an adult, I think the closest I have ever come to a full fledged nightmare was once I had a dream about being naked with Madonna. I awoke in a cold sweat, jumped into the shower, and had to cuddle little Kenny all night until he fell asleep. He was pretty upset. But that's the closest.

I never have nice hot sexy dreams either. Never had sex with anyone in a dream. Never even saw boobs in a dream. I've even tried thinking really hard about boobies or sex as I was falling asleep so I would dream about it. Nothing. Maybe I'm just miswired or blew a fuse or something. Or even worse...is my memory so bad that I cannot remember anything about any dream?

I dream all the time, man. I rarely have sex in dreams, and I rarely have nightmares anymore, but when I do, they are real mind benders!!

Most of my dreams don't make any sense. I wake up, think "WTF was that all about?" nd then go back to sleep. Lik the time I dreamed I was a homeless guy in Washington DC. I had a bottle of old crow in one hand, and I had a light saber. I was running all over the place, trying to get out of town, because Janet Reno and Hillary Clinton wanted to capture me and use me for BDSM doll. There were all these guys after me, like the "agents" from the Matrix. I finally got on a subway with Winnie the Pooh and Frodo Baggins. Pooh Bear got pissed because I didn't have any honey, and he squealed on me. I had to fight frodo, but my lightsaber couldn/t cut that fancy mithril shirt of his. My mother showed up with an iron skillet and knocked his head off... I think I finally got away, but i don't remember...

First comment, two entries in a row... probably never happen again!

Once in awhile I will wake up from having a really sexual dream and it always freaks me out or pisses me off because it's always with someone that I would NEVER let that close to me in a million years. And when I dream about someone that I would like to explore, it's always this frustrating thing of being interrupted over and over no matter where we try to hide. Thank goodness I rarely remember my dreams... except for those weird little snippets that you never are really sure are real or dream or half and half that you have when you are just dropping off to sleep or just waking up. Those suckers are weird as heck. Reality mingles in sometimes and really freaks me out. My daughter colored her hair the other night and woke to see if I liked it. I woke up thinking I had dreamed it was a woman I work with in a dream that showed me her wet freshly dyed black hair and she has black hair naturally... and then when I got home from work and was talking to my daughter I asked her... "when did you color your hair?" So, if you are miswired or have blown a fuse, you ain't alone. Sometimes I think I am better off not knowing what my dreams are, so bless that bad memory. They say you can learn to remember your dreams by telling yourself you will remember what you dream before you go to sleep and lying in bed a few minutes coaxing yourself to remember before you wake. I don't really want to know that bad.

Not all who wander are lost.

I used to have two recurring nightmares as a kid. Weird ones too. One was being chased by giant crab/scorpion like creatures, but I always escaped by going into the house through the garage door. There was a step up of about 14 inches and they couldn't make it that high. The other one was being chased by a giant flesh colored blob (I still think it was Silly Putty) and ending up running into an empty swimming pool, of course going in the shallow end and running to the deep end and being unsble to get out because I was too short to reach the ladders. I'd turn and watch the stuff slowly filling the pool and wake up screaming right before it smothered me.

I don't really remember anything I dream about now.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

I constantly have nightmares about falling. Supposedly it's very common and it means that I suffer a loss of "emotional equilibrium" (WTF?). But I agree with Theflinkychick in that ALL of my sexual dreams are with people that I would NEVER be with in real life, one being my OBVIOUSLY gay male Spanish teacher. Oh Taye Diggs where are you when I need you???

I don't dream as much as I did when I was younger, either. But, I do still have nightmares from time to time. And, when I do, I wake up just a frightened as I was when I was little. It's crazy!

When I was little, I had this recurring dream that I was trapped in a house with all of the Smurfs and we were being chased by an evil witch. Very bizarre! But, I always saved them in the end!

My sexual dreams aren't what they used to be, either. I still have some really hot ones from time to time. But, they aren't as vivid. I think as you get older, you don't dream as much because you are too stressed out & exhausted. They say you only dream right when you are falling asleep or right before you wake up. And, I think adults just crash out!

I too have nightmares. In my youth I would have the same dream over and over of a tornado ripping through my Father's place of work. That dream stopped suddenly after experiencing a tornado that went within 2 blocks of our house.

I still have nightmares (had one last night in fact, I woke up panting and scared but few details) but mostly mine are sexual in nature. Vivid, explicit dreams ... sometimes I can awaken with a smell or taste present. Amazingly, if I'm engaging in REAL sex, I don't dream.

Nightmares can be very scary... as a kid I'd always have one about statues of people, but the limbs kept coming off and floating around...creepy. Now I'm happy to say I don't have that one anymore, sometimes I will have a bad dream, but usually not that scary. Most of my dreams now involve sex... having sex with people that I usually would not even consider?! I'm no analyst, but I think I just want to be fucked! Is that too strong a word, I have the American Marilyn Monroe complex, I just want every man to want to have me!

I've had several dreams that went into deja vu sessions...amazing feeling. I dream all the time, mostly as an outsider in some sort of institution (school, military base, etc.) and there is usually a woman with me. When thing start going wierd, I will conciously wake up with the thought "Okaaayyyy...that's enough of this dream".

It's been a while since I had sex in a dream, the most recent was about 2 years ago...a Spanish girl in the back of an occupied, moving city bus. Wild. Real. Woke up right away and tried to go back to that dream harder than I ever wanted to go back to a dream...

Once in a while I will dream something and remember it. I had a dream the other night about Bloggers and you and Lil were in it TDA, but for the most part I don't remember my dreams. I do things while I am sleeping and then wakeup and can't remember what happened. I have awaken on the Bathroom floor, outside the back door on a chair, the living room sofa, and a dinning chair. I do dream about sex every now and again. Just like Flinky I have had sex in my dreams with guys I would never, ever do in real life.

I haven't remembered my dreams at all since I was 4 or 5 years old. Even when I have nightmares I don't know it, I just wake up in a sweat and am blank in mind.

Dreams the only thing left of your creative spark. Fear the thought of never having any more dreams. For you have become dull and normal when they stop. You aren't as exciting and unique without your dreams as you can see throughout history the GREATEST of MEN and the WORST of MEN have had dreams or at least nightmares to keep them going and set them a part from others.

My "nightmares" fall into three categories: me being really late for an important event, being unable to find something or unable to get where I need to be (getting lost). All legitimate fears, I'd say.

I do have sex dreams, but not with any regularity. (Dammit.)

What sucks about those is that I always, ALWAYS become aware that I'm dreaming at some point (like my recent dreamtime romp with Michael Chiklis - LO and I wake up. Frantically trying to go back to sleep doesn't work, so I never get to see the sex dreams through to the end. (Boo!)

What's up with that, Doctor TDA?

I feel sorry for you that you don't have nightmares anymore, I still have a healthy amount of them and I love it. I believe that nightmares are really efficient at telling you something about yourself, and not having them may mean you have nothing to learn about yourself. That would be tragic.

I don't remember my dreams, but I do know that I have had a few sexual dreams. I do know I have them, only when I havent had it in a while. I remember waking up so disappointed that I had to wake up. Its like back to reality! They were definately dreams, for I have never felt that way in reality (

TDA- No, they were still blue. I agree with your theory as to why they are all blue... to an extent. But, my theory is that it's because they were communists.
Think about it:
They all were the same financially- no upper or lower class.
They all served a purpose in society- Brainy solved problems; Handy fixed things; Cook Smurf is the chef; Poet Smurf is the writer; Harmony is the musician; Painter Smurf is, yep you guessed it, the painter; Farmer Smurf grows all the food; Hefty Smurf is the laborer; the Enamored Smurf is the hopeless romantic; Vanity Smurf is the wanna-be movie star; Lazy Smurf is the bum; Greedy is the over-indulger; AstroSmurf is the astronaut; Smurfette is the town prostitute.
And, last but not least.... Papa Smurf is Karl Marx, the founder of Communism. He even looks just like him (except for the whole "blue" thing).

Pretty crazy, eh? I thought so when my Sociology teacher (in high school) told us this theory.
