We Need To Be Even More Politically Correct ?

In the news this morning there is a ton of coverage about the Florida Seminoles being politically incorrect. The mere mention of football teams fighting and associating with Native Americans has enraged the Seminole community. Hmmm, let's chat...shall we?

First off, the term Politically Correct if that isn't an oxymoron I've never heard one. Since when does anybody automatically associate politics with accuracy? If we're going to be sympathetic as a people let's start here. Why not call the act Appearance Accurate, or maybe Sorry I pissed You Off But I got A Beef Here And What I have To Say Is Just As Important As Your Petty Insecurities?

Let's start with the Florida Seminoles. OK, let me get this straight. A group Of Native Americans is upset because a football team is using their name and leading people to believe the Seminoles are pugnacious? Courageous? What? I remember the cowboy movies...seems to me that the Seminoles aren't really renowned as blood thirsty warriors. Actually, I think I remember seeing some of them bringing water bottles to the warriors during the halftime raid break.

OK, no more Florida Seminoles™. From now on the Florida Seminoles™ will be known as The Florida Firewater Intolerant's. Hey, what about those dogs the Cleveland Indians? S.O.B.'s. Yeah, but that Indian face with the big nose is recognizable. OK, let's clean it up here. No more Cleveland Indians. From now on they're the Cleveland Nickel Posers.

Oh Oh...the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Those bastards. Suggesting the Irish are fighters. Using a Leprechaun in a fighting stance!! The nerve. No more Fighting Irish! From now on they will be The Notre Dame Negotiating I.R.A. Opposers.

Oh yes...the biggest offender of all. Americans. LMAO are we a bunch of self-impressed wankers or what? We stake claim to an entire continent as our own? What about the Canadians? Or the Mexicans? Nope...we're the Americans. Hmm, time to rethink I'm guessing. If the Canadians name us what will it be? The Shatner Stealers? And if the Mexicans name us...The Labor Nabbers? Why not just call ourselves The Citizens of The United States?

After all, isn't part of our problem because we're all a Something-Hyphen-American? Let's try U.S. Citizens for a bit and see where that goes.

Gone for the weekend and now back with a vengence. Glad to see you online again, buddy!

My 2 cents: I hate pollitical correctness. I am not a racist, a sexist, a communist, or any other -ist, but I've been called such things simply because I say what I think and I don't candy-coat it.

I teach online now, but I used to teach in person in a classroom. At the beginning of every new class, I'd say "I'll warn you now that I am totally polictically INCORRECT. I am an equal oppotunity offender. If anyone here has any problem with anything I say, please be a mature man or woman about it and talk to me face to face about it."

I had almost no problems from anyone. I think most of America is sick of the PC bullshit, and I can't understand how a chosen few seem to perpetuate it...

Great post, TDA! Being PC is overrated as far as I'm concerned! People are people. We shouldn't have to constantly walk on eggshells in order to not be offensive. Don't get me wrong, I am not a racist or a feminist, nor do I judge people by their appearance. As we all know, looks can be very deceiving! I believe that it is what's on the inside that counts.

I realize there really are people out there who are stereotyped for being a certain race or gender. Everyone has been type-cast in some way or another, and we shouldn't let it get us down. We should learn from the experience and overcome the stigma. But, I think there are too many people in this world who strive on playing the "victim" role. Personally, I cannot be held responsible for things that happened hundreds of years ago. I can't change history! That's why it's called "History"!

Can't we all just get along?

(PS. I guess my streak of optimism has gone awry. Sorry, TDA. Even I have my moments. lol)

F&F you're right, it's the big picture that counts! We are all guilty of that occasional steotype.

I know first-hand. People look at me and think, OK he's a really old guy with a tiny member...he must be lousy in bed. Well, they're right...but it still isn't right they thought that.

TDA- LMFAO! You are too funny!

Btw, it's not the size that matters. It's how you use it! (You do know how to use it, don't you? lol Or, do you need me to show you?)
