The Fox & The Rabbit

I always loved the Fox & the Rabbit stories. One of my favorites actually.

One bright sunny spring day the young spry rabbit was bounding about the meadow. Jumping high into the air and doing a backflip was child's play for this young buck. He showed not only impressive hang-time, but a sheer brute strength with every new move. As he struted about, he occasionally gave a flirtatious twitch of his whiskers much to the pleasure of the females in the bushes. Clearly he was demonstrating his speed and agility so the many female rabbits watching nearby would be impressed and select him as mating material. After all, it is mating season.

But with all the adoration and accolades, the young rabbit was still displeased. For you see everytime the sly old fox approached the females left. When they returned he could hear them talking about the fox and that disturbed him greatly. This sort of distraction will never do. The fox must go down.

The much younger rabbit decided that a showdown was in order. His blazing fast starts and blinding speed would easily tire the much older fox, and, eventually the old fox would have enough and just go away. This would not only make the rabbit very happy because all the attention could be on him...but also proved the fox was no match after all.

The rabbit called out the fox and began his speedy circles. He jumped right, he bounded left...he even climbed the tallest tree. The fox watched. The rabbit was blinding as he raced back and forth, up and down the tree, and did arial summersaults. All the while, the fox watched...and smiled. The rabbit never noticed the smile since he was so engrossed in his performance.

As the rabbit's confidence grew, he got closer and closer to fox. Soon he could almost touch him. With one last burst of energy the rabbit sprinted up the tree. As he did the fox calmly walked to the trunk of the tree and waited. The rabbit looked down at the fox and laughed.

When he looked back up, he had run out of branches. He tumbled to ground and into the waiting arms of the fox. The fox knew all along that the branches were finite in number. The rabbit didn't pay attention to the number of branches.

The fox didn't eat the rabbit. He just set him back on the ground, offered him a towel so the rabbit could wipe his sweaty brow, and he smiled. The rabbit laughed and bolted away to the brush when he told his tale of victory. The fox smiled again. You see, the fox didn't eat the rabbit that day because he wasn't hungry.

LOL, just like the old bull teaching the young bull... Young bull says 'lets run down into field and mate with a cow..." Old bull replies 'Let walk down and mate with them all." T
