Is This Love, Lust, Or Just Somewhere To Fight?

There are certainly a whole bunch of us here in Blogville, and more are joining us daily. I can't help but wonder why? Is it to find true love? Temporary lust satisfaction? To argue and quarrel with our neighbors? The latter two certainly get alot of attention, but the first one merits our focus. Why are people here?

Remember the old Sherlock Holmes line? "I wonder why the dog didn't bark." If you read closely while visiting blogs...you will find so many saying the same thing. Soem outright. Some between the lines. "I want to meet the love of my life. My other half. That one person I have spent my lifetime blindly groping in the dark for a mere brush against them."

Maybe it's a question of defining love. What does it really mean to us? I think my favorite definition of love came from the movie, The Wizard of Oz, when the Wizard was speaking to the tin man. "A heart isn't measured by how much you love, but by how much others love you." This is really the jist of a relationship. Giving. Mutually.

Openly and without thought...by BOTH people. All too often, due to past issues, we tend to center in on those who would take advantage of us. They abuse the walls of our fragile heart on a daily basis without realization or afterthought. Each bruise leaves a painful scar on our self-worth. And each time our self-worth is scarred, it slips lower on our list of priorities.

Ever read Dylan Thomas? Here's a pretty damn good poem.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Ever take a glance at our Constitution? We rarely have since high school. There are a couple passages that really mean something to us all and we should embrace them.

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

Pretty much the jist of this is; those of us who have the power, have the responsibility and duty to right wrongs and stand up and protect those who cannot protect themselves. This is an obligation to each other. I suspect right now you're wondering where am I going with all this?

We are bloggers and the power of our words is tremendous. We can make each other laugh to tears. We can warm each other's hearts. We can break each other's hearts. Which two of the three makes you feel whole when you do them? Wouldn't we really rather bring joy and happiness? We have an obligation to care for each other in Blogville and the real world. Each and every day.

We are all social creatures. All humans are social creatures. We cannot experience a single emotion without the influence of another human being. I'm pretty glad that is. I need other people. I need to make them smile. Make them laugh. Warm their heart. I think, deep down, all of you are the same as me. Maybe we're all the same.

Make today a NEW beginning. For yourself and for all the lives you touch. If you're bickering...quit it. If you're being abused...end it. If you're in love...expand it and be thankful. Life is just too damned short to hurt.

Did I hear a Wizard of Oz reference????

Love, lust or somewhere to fight? Is there a 'none of the above' option? I'd put it more in the area of search for the Self.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

To quote you...see above...this is why we are all here. Or at least why I am here. And I think that it is somehow easier here, with the anyonmity here to be ourselves...to be accepted for who we are on the inside...and to worry less about how we appear to one another. Essentially, I am here to be happy and to help make others happy. BTW.....nice to have you back!

Wow.. this post has moved me... it has brought out from within the part of me that I have hidden and gets hurt so bad when I am called the bitch. I shall go and love and try to make others smile as long as I don't miss my Seinfeld reruns. Thank you TDA1 for another truly awesome post.

Oh... but I am going to war with one blogger though, Efil for tagging you first... LOL! just kidding *ducks around the corner*

You can shine your shoes and wear a suit
You can comb your hair and look quite cute
You can hide your face behind a smile
One thing you can't hide
Is when you're crippled inside

Lovely post and another thought may be to practice random acts of kindness. I have done this anononymously more than once and it really does work to make someones day. I once worked at a concession stand at our local ballpark and at the end of the game, left over food would be thrown away. It really irritated me to waste this so I got permission to take it and dropped it off at the local men's shelter for late night snacks for the men there. Just pulled up, went in and gave it to them. Or send a card with no signature to someone that needs cheering up. Kind of like the movie where the kid gets something and has to do something for another.

TDA,
Wasn't it Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks that said, "Why can't we all just get along?"
Overall, blogland is a good place to be. Despite the fact that we're all looking for something different, we seem to come together. The mean get ignored, and the shy are encouraged. We offer a shoulder to those in need, and share in the joy of others. We offer wisdom and silliness. We offer each other a touch that cannot be felt, but still impacts us.

Welcome back, your silliness was sorely missed. Let me know if you ever come to work in Hollywood North.

Madness takes its toll. Exact change please!
