I Let My Daughters Down .. I Suck

As you may know, I have three lovely daughters. My oldest is about to turn 29. Then I have 14 and 13. I have a granddaughter that is about to turn 2. I am surrounded by more estrogen than any one man should endure.

Also understand that my children are my life. I love children. I love snuggling with them, hearing their day-to-day problems, and helping them live to see adulthood. Among the practices I have applied is instilling a solid sense of self. Helping them understand that although some people see gender first, they must never.

I routinely take my daughters on a date. One on one. I have them dress up and pick them up at the specified time. We dine and talk. I open their doors, move their chairs, assist their ordering, and instill...THIS is how a man treats a lady. Do not ever settle for less.

We routinely watch tear-jerkers and share the Kleenex. They are currently courageously embarking on the impossible task of teaching me rhythum. We play Barbies...I am usually Roy, the gay hairdresser (not that there is anything wrong with that). We share dificulties and collectively resolve issues. I make them part of my decisions and the solutions. My parents never did that.

I am so fortunate to have this relationship with my girls. The title of this blog is how I let my girls down...and that I suck. How did this happen you ask? Here we go.

My daughters decided I needed some assistance. They wrote to "Pimp My Ride". Come on, if you can't get Dad's ride pimped what the hell good are you? It seems that the production company has an age restriction. Yep, kids although we live in a nation that is a world front-runner...you cannot get your ride pimped if you're over 26. Deep sigh.

I'm depressed. My girls are depressed. And I'm forced to tool around in an unpimped ride. Sometimes life sucks.

Look at it this way, if you were under 26, you wouldn't have your wonderful daughters, and they wouldn't have you.

Ahh well I think PMR should be disgusted with its self, isnt that age discrimnation at its worst.

Call the Vatican and see if they can "Pope your ride". They sure don't seem to have any age limits.

Hope i can be even half as good a parent as you someday (i'm a long ways off, considering i don't have any kids yet. except for one "pretend adopted daughter" who's almost 15).

Mom you are so correct. I was so hoping for a pimped ride though.

Kitten I agree. It just isn't right. Think of the possibilities! Geritol dispenser, a toilet because we all know us old folks have problems in that arena, window shades. The list goes on and on.

The girls can learn automechanics and body work and pimp dads ride themselves.

Don't suppose you'd adopt a 32 year old at this late date? I'd love to play Barbies with you.

As for PMR, of course there is an age restriction. No one over 26 would tolerate the tongue in cheek ridicule that the host gives the recipient.

Isn't there a show on TLC or A&E that does something to grown-up's cars?

*hoping for a new daddy*
Later!

I know the conversation was about pimpin your ride, but I just wanted to say how great I think it is that you take time out like that with your daughters.

TDA, there really is nothing better than being a dad is there? I have two daughters - 15 going on 29 and 12 going on 39 - and I get to do all kinds of fun things too.

The things that I have learned from having a teenage daughter are truly amazing - socks with sandals are a fashion faux pas? I never realized that Oregon had a state law that required me to park one block away from the high school for every dent in my truck.

But since you have an older daughter too - how did you survive her dating? Mine is going on her first official date next week and I do not know if I can survive it.

TDA,

Sorry about them not pimping your ride, but tell your daughters to go to Overhaulin'. The lady co-host looks really good in greasy clothes, and you never know, but your stunt video may just win her over to Little Kenny's side.

Madness takes its toll. Exact change please!

Dearest Ken
After reading this blog I had to sit down and tell you a few things. It took me awhile as I was a little choked up and it took some time to get the lump out of my throat. But here goes as far as the way you talk about and treat your daughters I only wish there were at least 10 million more parents like you. You seem to take the time to teach your children the things that are reay important in life such as being polite and courteous as well as kind. Takeing them out on dates one on one and showing them how a gentleman is supposed to act is one of the nicest things that i have ever heard of any parent doing and for that i on behave of all of the people in this world who did not have this privilage I thank you from the bottom of our colective hearts Thank you Ken
