Nonverbal Communication

Some people need to be touched more than others. Some people go crazy if they're touched too much.

Well, not literally crazy, they just can't stand to be touched alot. I was hardly touched at all as a child (that I can remember), and now, when I'm alone, I crave to be touched, or at least I think so. It may not be true after all.

Because I've had so few experiences where I was touched by someone else intimately (besides the standard family greeting), I have a preconceived notion about how the experience should be, based on what I see on television, and what other people do in public.

But, because I would not be used to the physical stimulation, according to some cognitive psychologists, I might at first find it offensive.

The initial reaction, being startled by unusual physical intimate contact with another person, might be misunderstood by the new partner as repulsive.

Patience and understanding is required. If you have had very little intimate contact with other people, it might be wise to admit it and say "I'm not used to this much attention".

And for you who hear such a message, please don't think of it as pity, take the opportunity, take the reins, and tell your partner exactly what you want, and rock your new partner's world. Have patience.
