revised numbers

For 28 people on the watch list, the average age is 37.6.

If I drop off those 5 younger than 30, it goes up to 40.5

The average geographical distance to me, for 28 people, is 2306.7.

If I drop off the 4 Europeans, it drops to 1733.9

If I then drop off the two who are within 30 miles of me, it goes back up to 1888.8

You guys are too far away!

I must have some kind of inaccessibility issues.

Let's move our SF discussion off of Corezon's blog, shall we?

My father is an SF fan. I grew up in a house with books .. books everywhere, on every topic you can imagine. Scientific and medical journals, best sellers, environmental, anti-war, philosophy, science fiction ... you name it. I've read almost everything Heinlein ever wrote. Zelazny, Cherryh, Bradford, Bradley, Spinrad, Asimov, Clark, Norton ... I've got Norton paperbacks that are so old ... remember double books? I subscribe to the SF bookclub.

But I've never gone to a fan convention, or considered myself part of those people who dress up in Star Trek or Star Wars costumes and collect paraphernalia.

Should we start an SF group here?

Just to brag a bit...

I've met Zelazny, Cherryh (and consider her brother David to be a friend, even if I haven't seen him for years), Bradley (and have known the person who's ghost writing her now for many years), both Benford brothers, Spinrad, and Asimov. (Not to mention Ellison, who is three stories all by himself). I consider the following (also previously unmentioned) to be personal friends: Niven, Pournelle, Brin (I have to tell the story some time that I've entitled "The Science Fiction Writer and the Governor of California", Greg Bear, and George R.R. Martin, not to mention Barbara Hambly, who's pretty exclusively a fantasy writer. One of the high points in my life took place in 1976 at the first major masquerade I participated in with ex-wife at the Worldcon in Kansas City. We're sitting backstage, waiting, and a distinguished looking gentleman with a gray goatee, wearing a tuxedo and red sash (which designated him as one of the backstage volunteer helpers) came up and asked if he could get me anything. That was how I first met Alfred Bester.

Ace doubles! Back when paperbacks were so cheap you could bind two books together....

Sure, let's start a group if we have enough people....!

You'll never guess which states have the most people on my watch list...

North Carolina -3
Florida -3
Georgia -2
Colorado -2
California -2
Washington -2
Ontario -2

Maybe my geography is bad, but it looks to me like you've got a cluster in the southeast.....

"Let's move our SF discussion off of Corezon's blog, shall we? "

I agreed with you... you ready for the big laugh? (totally appropriate since the original subject of the post had been humor) Corezon and Lovin_U_4_Fun carried it on without us!

(I went back and rejoined.....)
