Somethin's goin' on

don't know what it is, but it's smelling stronger...

So, I'm sittin' here at work today... it's my second Sunday on the short turnaround..... I work Saturday night from 1600 until 2400, then come back in Sunday morning at 0800. But that's ok, because there's not much goin' on here except janitors... I've got a patroling guard who keeps trying to put something over on me.... last week he showed up at 0800, said that he needed to leave at 1530 in order to get to church at 1600, then tried to give himself 8 hours for it...I said no. Come to find out, he was supposed to have been in at 0700 last week, which would have allowed him his 8 hours and still gotten him out at 1500. So today, he shows up at 0700, as scheduled, and then tells me he needs to leave 20 minutes earlier so he can get to church at 1500, and says that the boss says he can still put himself in for eight hours. I tell him that he can leave early if he wants, but that no way does he get to put in for eight hours if he does.

But that's still ok, because he's pretty much superfluous today... the buildings are empty except for the janitors, the two guards, and me, the guards' supervisor....

So I'm sittin' here, watching the cameras, keeping an eye on the alarms, and blogging.... About four times today, the "Members Blogs" page has highlighted one of my watched blogs with an updated entry, but I know that it lies, because the date still shows as whenever their last post was entered... and sure enough, when I check out the blog, there's no new post... so I know what's going on is that people are posting, but the new entries are going into some kind of queue awaiting approval.... Grump! This is my mental meat and potatoes today guys! Get this shit approved and out where I can read it... today! I've only got until 1600, then I'm heading up to the valley to try and play Hell for the first time in over three months...

(Hell, or Oh Hell! is a card game much like bridge, except where bridge is a partnership game, Hell is every man for himself. It's not an easy game to learn, and it's a very difficult game to learn to play well. If there are any things that I do well, playing Hell is actually one of them. Or at least I used to.. Back when my best friend and I played a lot of duplicate bridge, back in the seventies, we learned that in order to play well at tournaments, you need to play frequently to keep the edge. Hell is the same way, and after having not played for three months (my erratic schedule keeping my Friday nights otherwise occupied) I imagine that my edge is somewhat dull. I'll find out, assuming that by the time I get out of here, that I'm not too tired to spend the hour driving up to the valley. The good news is that I'm not due back at work until midnight tomorrow night.)
