Roving: post script

I thought three weeks ago that my roving days were over when I accepted the full time post of "Relief Shift Supervisor" at Toshiba. This post gives me 40 hours a week, and a 5% raise over what I had been making. I figure I could have been pushing for an assignment on the sixth day, but I haven't been.

So I didn't think I'd need to keep records of where I was being assigned anymore.

Sure, they called up at 1030 last Monday morning and asked if I'd be willing to put in 4 hours at a place called Filenet in Costa Mesa. Somebody hadn't shown up, and they needed someone to relieve somebody who'd been there since midnight. So I went in and recorded temperature readings for 4 hours, went home at 1600, got a nap, and still made it into Toshiba at midnight for my first regular shift of the week. But I figured that would be an anomoly.

The one drawback to my new schedule is Saturday night/Sunday morning. I work 1600 - 2400 on Saturday, then go back in a 0800 Sunday morning and work until 1600. But then I'm free until midnight Monday night. I expected to spend yesterday evening playing cards.

But at 1500 yesterday, to cap off a stupid conflict I had at Toshiba (more about that another time) I get a call asking if I can help out someplace local to where I live for four hours. Sure... here I come.

So I spent the next couple of hours split between patrolling a parking lot in one of those golf carts, and trying to keep people from sitting in front of the theatre forever, blocking traffic while they try to figure out when the next show starts... "please move forward to the dropoff/pickup area". And after I've been doing it for a couple of hours, the guy I've been trading off the two duties with, the guy in charge of the post, asks me if I'm willing to do an additional couple of hours. They're running "Pirates" this weekend, and traffic has not slacked off to its normal Sunday night levels. Two more hours, at double time? Sure.
So I end up getting off at 2200 (after the other guy asks me if I'd be willing to do a regular post there with guaranteed overtime every week).

In the time span between 1600 Saturday and 2200 Sunday, I logged in 22 work hours in the 30 hour span.

Mzhuny keeps telling we I work too much, and I keep telling her that I don't work enough.

I'll concede you the point this time, ma'am.

I don't know about working too much, but you don't play enough for sure...

Actually, that's what my time spent here is all about. This is as close as I come (except for the two hours a week spent playing poker every Tuesday night.)

You need a real life warm body to 'play' with. Then you can go to that pirate movie and not care it is as good as the first one..it may even work out better it's not as good (wink wink)

You remind me of the time I took a girl friend to the drive-in to see a double bill of 1,000,000 Years B.C. and Capricorn One. She spent the entire first film critiquing the anthropological errors therein, then decided she was horny for the second film..... I didn't find out what was in that film for years....

Thanks for the friendly thought....
