Deep in the South....
Deep in the South....
So, here I am, in Atlanta, actually getting to meet some of the other people who post here. I'm on a borrowed computer, and can't research properly, and I'm not going to try to indicate names when I'm not sure of their handles to begin with, much less the spelling. It's been an interesting weekend in any number of ways.
I've had two major bits of culture shock. The trivial one is length of hair on the men. Back in L.A. (when I was still paying attention) most guys were still wearing their hair fairly long, although I knew a few people who did the bald look. Back here, there are 5 or 6 guys with the shaved head look, and everybody else is very clean cut (I admit that I had my hair cut last Tuesday, knowing that I was going to be going away and - Gasp! - meeting people. The longest hair on a guy that I've seen here with our group is probably Expatbrit49.
The other piece of heavy culture shock for me has been smoke. This shouldn't be a shock to me, really. I spent enough time in the south in the early ninties to know that they live by a different set of laws than we do, but that ended (mostly) ten years ago, and since that time, California has gone from having no-smoking areas to it being practically illegal to smoke in public. Down here, people smoke. And not only do people smoke, everybody smokes. (This is, of course, an exagerration. There were a few exceptions......) Still, I'm both surprised and surprised that I'm surprised...
Yesterday was the first time in over a month that I didn't post, and this morning I know that I had a dream about typing......
a partial list of those present at the moment, correct spelling not guaranteed, and numbers are truncated:
Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here!

I had no idea you were headed to an AdultFriendFinder gathering!! Cooooool. I'd love to put actual people to handles (and some to a few other things..lol)|
I know exactly what you mean about the hair and the smoke...I REALLY missed guys with long hair while I was in the States. Most guys in CAnada have it at least to their collar...unless they're bankers or something. Different standards for what's considered "long".
And I was really disappointed when I came back and found out how wrong I was that I went around telling everyone that Canadians frown on smoking and it's not nearly as common as in the States. Must have just been me. Dang. I feel like SUCH an ass.

I think all totalled up, there werw 8 of us who didn't smoke. The ones that did smoke more than made up for the ones who didn't. When I washed my clothing, I had to wash it twice to get the smoke out!!|
