What's an oilman?

Between the security of childhood and the insecurity of a second childhood, we find a fascinating group of humanity called OILMEN.
We come in all shapes and sizes.... in dirty coveralls,in court, in love, in pubs, in debt and always in the shit. Girls love them, towns tolerate them, the company supports them and their wives divorce them.
An oilman is laziness with a pack of cards, bravery with a scratched hard hat and half a finger missing. Steve McQueen with a tattered copy of "Men Only" and a protector of the world with half a dozen pints. He has the energy of a tortoise, the slyness of a fox, the brain of an idiot, the stories of a sea captain, the sincerity of a born liar and the aspirations of a Casanova. Some of his interest are women, girls, females, dames, whores, birds and members of the opposite sex. He dislikes answering
letters, overtime, safety meetings, boat drills, old films and flat beers. No one else could cram into ones pockets, a dirty handkerchief, a comb, a picture of his girlfriend, a bottle opener and what's left of last weeks pay. He likes to spend his money on girls, some on booze, some on the horses, some on football pools and squanders the rest. An oilman is a magical creature. You can lock him out your home, but not your heart. You scratch him from your shopping list, but not from your mind, because he is the one and only
original pissed off pain in the ass. But all his shattered dreams come whole again as he climbs aboard the shore bound chopper, looks back at the drilling rig, and says to himself.....
FUCK THAT SHIT !!!!!

PS Ain't it great to not have to worry about power, gas,or plastics. Next time you turn on a switch, open a bottle of coke or your mother or grandmother has a pacemaker don't forget us! Some of you call us oilfield trash but without us this world would be alot different.

Interesting post.

Looking at your profile and bits of it look damned familiar. That "cocker spaniel/couple on honeymoon" bit in particular. Hmmm.

Ah, well.

Kisses

    Quoting sweetbabydee07:
    I wouldn't call y'all trash. That's just plain rude.
But whatcha gonna call yourself when the oil runs out?
Do oilmen think about stuff like that? Most folks don't.
Sweetbabydee07,

Just so you know, Oilfield trash is slang. And yes, alot of us are rude and obnockous, but not all of us. The way things are going right now, yes we might run out in the near future. i have a plan for that, but we arent the only ones who did to be planning for it. alot of the world depends on oil, gasoline, natural gas, plastic, power, chemicals, and ect... When we do run out, we better have planned for those things being gone. Most folks dont know that the plastics they use everyday are derived from crude oil, and that the power that they use to cook, run equipment, ect... actually is coming from power plants that use natural gas to make that power. People need to wake up and smell that pungent odor that most people would say is the shit hitting the fan. We need to be prepared and start conserving what we do have left, while we work on other means and other resources to replace the ones that we are so rapidly depleting. If we are not careful the clock will wined back on us and we will be riding horses and bicycles, burning whale oil for light, moving to a more tempret climate for those that live in cold regions and for those of us that live in hot regions will be moving to a cooler area, (note: in wagons with wooden wheels) And lots of people will starve to death, for example the entire North East of the U.S. only has about 72 hrs worth of food, that nostly is transported from the midwest and the south. When we cann't refrigate or transport that food, widespread famine will occur. I don't know about the UK but you might want to do some research into where you get your power and food.

Good luck and thanks for stopping by.
