It's down below $2.90 in Orange County.

Not the Bush Administration itself, but the "Corporate Interests" who are pulling the strings of this "administration"...

everything is clearly being done to support somebody else making tons of money.....

    interesting

    always trying to understand how and why gas prices can vary so widely within essentially the same metropolis - Malibu is still way over $3

    you think people are making money on this? really?
gasoline profits are a pittance compared to the money being made by these same corporate interests off of our "military activity" in Iraq.

2.77 here.

So where is the outrage from the 70's?

Can everyone really afford 3 bucks a gallon?

Where is my dayum 'Alternative Fuel' that my truck can run on?

The cheapest unleaded here is from $2.91 to $2.99.

Peak Oil Theory was developed by a Geologist named M. King Hubbert in the 50's. The basics are: (stolen from hubbertpeak dot c o m)

Production starts at zero;
Production then rises to a peak which can never be surpassed;
Once the peak has been passed, production declines until the resource is depleted.

There is a lot of debate about this stuff but estimates of when production will peak seem to average around now. It basically says that we have found and are now depleting the easy-to-get oil and it will take increasing effort to produce decreasing results. Given increasing demand in China, India & others I think in 10 years $3.00 gasoline will seem real cheap.

Sorry to be longwinded & depressing here, if you want to read in detail a search will turn up lots of websites.

I think I might have to go into a depression. *grin* I was and am rooting for $5.00 per gallon gas. Since Shrub and friends will do nothing about energy policy, the only way anything will happen is through the public markets. At $5.00 gas, we will actually learn how to conserve ourselves....drive slower, turn down or up our thermostats and develop alternate fuels to use. When gas is expensive alternate liquid fuels start to become profitable and realistic. The technology is already there. We will stop using corn for bio fuel and use other plant materials that are up to ten times more effective. You didn't think you would start a rant with this post did you? *grin* skier.

I remember a couple weeks back when I saw the price dip below three bucks here and wondered WTF was going on? After all, prices always spike before the Labor Day weekend.

I rxpect you'll continue to see a slight but steady decline in the price until, say, the first Tuesday in November comes 'round. The oil companies need a happy electorate to keep that GOP majority in power, y'know. Otherwise how're they gonna wangle another $8 billion subsidy from Congress?

BTW, Silk, they just passed a law here in Maryland that people who move here from California get free gas for a year. (Would I lie?)

Quoting SilkDitty:

yup, you right I reckon, about the elections coming up - I thought the dip before the holiday was to encourage people to get out, travel and drop more bucks on driving - but if the prices continue to drop, you're spot on

now why on earth would Maryland offer an incentive like that? what state wants an influx of Californians? what's the rationale? or are you just pulling my leg? you're pulling my leg...

**********************************************************************

Hey SilkDitty ~~ I think the whole point is he WANTS to pull your leg!!! And who could blame him? Such beautiful legs they are!

LOL

PS -- prices still dropping here in Maryland! Yeah!
