Green Corn Tamales

Went to an informal business lunch meeting at a Mexican restaurant that had a buffet.

It was all good, except for the tamales, which were

to die for!

I didn't know they were green corn tamales until I opened the husk. At that point, I squealed a bit and made slightly inappropriate sounds of gustatory delight.

Green corn tamales are my favorite! While I don't eat much red meat, at Christmas time I do love the Mexican tradition of making red tamales with green olives in them as Christmas gifts. Those are good.

But nothing can compare to the sweet explosion on the tongue that green corn tamales make.

One by one, the members at the meeting went back to get a tamale and it was like watching a string of lights get turned on when they put fork to mouth. Ping! Ping! Ping!

Me too! My dinner tonight was a grilled, marinated London Broil (cooked it just perfect) with a baked yam and succotash. Would have had plenty of room for my favorite dessert (peach cobbler), if I would have had one!

We had our monthly "fine dining" tonight with some of the guys from work and a couple of favorite customers. Went to a small, out of the way restaurant on one of the local rivers in a very small southern Louisiana town. The restaurant now inhabits what was an ancient fisherman's bar....14' ceilings, sinker cypress boards on the walls, beaded pine board ceilings, and wooden floors. Started out with fried crab claws, calimari, and seafood gumbo. I ended up with the tuna steak pan seared about 1/16" on each side. After dinner...drinks on the "veranda" (southern for porch) watching the boats on the river and some good conversation. Gotta love those business functions, especially when you're with good friends too.

and as you sit on the toilet the next morning having an unusually difficult and painful time of it you say to yourself, "what in the fuck did I eat yesterday? As the exiting hot sauce leaves you with a burning rim job you say "oh yeah, MEXICAN" yeeeeeoooooooow
