Katrina's Aftermath

For a while now I had felt rather jaded about the hurricane season. Living in Florida and having so many close calls I began to feel as if it wasn't such a big deal. Last year I was caught in a bit of Charley's wake and gained a bit of perspective.....but not much. When Katrina went across the southern tip of Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico, I was barely paying attention to any of the news updates. The realization of what happened didn't hit me until I started seeing images online (where most of my news comes from) of the people with no homes, people crying for help, of the stranded and desperate standing next to the fallen......it made me think about how the things we take for granted can be wiped away in an instant.
