I appreciate...

This is what my last post was supposed to be before Frankie and Cha Cha took editorial control of it...

Today, I am stopping to appreciate things I sometimes take for granted. I was watching NOVA last night on PBS and it was a look at life and death everyday in Iraq. One of the US Army soldiers in this documentary said something that struck me. He said, "when I get back home I am not going to take as much for granted as I did before." He went on to say, "I didn't appreciate a lot of things we have and I didn't know any better before - now I won't take those things lightly again."

Think about what he was saying for a minute...

This is a list of some of my "appreciations"

I appreciate...

A peaceful, uneventful commute to work each day.
A job.
A "boring" life without daily gunfire and/or explosions.
A car.
My other car.
A house on an acre of green (er, brown ) grass.
All the packaged, prepared food I could possibly ever want to eat.
Indoor plumbing.
Early morning sunrises.
Late evening sunsets.
Time to do what I want to on a whim in between those two things.
A hot bath at will.
A long, lingering hot shower.
Privacy.
Free Speech.
An opinion.
Another person's opinion.
Talking to my friends every day.
Being able to see a loved one in person whenever I choose.
A day without having to carry a weapon to stay alive.
Peace.
Texas Blues.
Dialogue and disagreement without raised voice.

and...

The freedom to choose my own destiny...

What do you appreciate?
(besides me, of course - that's a given )

At the moment I enjoy seeing my kids grow...
And know they survive!!!

Preparing my older child's removal, some packing and thinking what is still needed.

And like today, after work, I was able to enjoy the dinner someone had made for the MOM!!!
Not a bad thing..

During the years I have tried to learn to enjoy small things, and trying not to wait for the future or the retirement before I do something!!

Just to live the day and all the nice normal things

Good words o' wisdom!

I'm much the same way. I try to take each day as it's own adventure - to keep my eyes open and enjoy everything that comes my way.

There are way too many things I enjoy to even try to list them... but some of my favorites are just very simple things...

The resident who comes outside with me first thing in the morning to smoke with me...

The phone call from my girls each morning to tell me they're dressed and ready for school "bye Mom... love you"

When I hear that "you have mail" alert...

When I lay out my pillows just right on my bed each night and fall into them.... horizontal is such a good way to be!!

Watching the amazement in my daughter's eyes when we've gone driving and she parks the car just right in the driveway...

The gift of my friends....
