....and thanks to Joe & Carol

I'm positive that I am not a heathen.... I wouldn't say I'm some bible thumper either...somewhere in between... I call myself a *back row baptist*...you know the ones that are always late so they slip in and only make it as far up as the back row...no need in drawing unnecessary attention to myself, right??.....

I was 30 when I finally....*ahem* ...took the plunge...(ok, bad joke...sorry)... anyhooo... I am a Southern Baptist...and I am a little upset... I was not given any kind of rule book when I was baptized.... and I had no clue that its literally against my religion to DANCE I found this out only last year...always thought it to be some urban legend or something.... I mean come on...FOOTLOOSE was a fictional story.. right?!???... (gawds I loved Kevin Bacon in that movie...oops...Focus reis...focus)

I have to say that I am a dancer....Rhythm is my best friend...I LOVE DANCING!!... I am pretty sure that the Lord will overlook this dancing sin of mine...because I don't think I'll be stopping anytime soon....besides...there are so many more bigger sins of mine that probaly make dancing seem like just a tiny fart of a sin... (what the hell did I say?... ) Oh hell...ya know what I mean... hell...do I even know what I mean...?!...

Yep.... seems that I'm getting back to my normally abnormal self J&C.... feels pretty good!

Sounds a lot better too, LMAO. As an ex-Southern Baptist, I know all abou the no dancing rule. What do you think that movie was about anyway, LOL? Hell, there isn't anything you CAN do for fun in that religion, that's why I left back in the early 60's. EVERYTHING fun is a sin, LOL. But anyway, the most important thing is that Reis is back to her usual feisty, funny insightful self; prancin' and twirlin' again. Hell, at my age, I just like working the lights, RAFLMAO. Joe

dancing's not a sin it's just a misinterpertaion of the bible or some stoggy association that dancing makes you lose your inhabitions and then you have premarital or extra-marital relations. duh

Well Hi Reisaree,

Well I was a Baptist, married in a Baptist church! I started to masturbate in my 1st year in bible college. That was the year 'I found it' for the 1st time! Before that I wasn't even aware of 'it' or what 'it' was for! I wanted to ne a missionary or a preacher, but I figured I couldn't stand in a pulpit, lookig at beautiful ladies, and their cleavages, without being a total hypocrite!

I know what you mean about dancing! I would love to dance, but my wife does not! I would love to dance erotically! My wife does not approve of nudity or masturbation, in fact she threw my dinner at me for visiting a nudist beach!

I think that we may be backslidden Baptists Reisaree!?

Hi, I just moved here from Dallas (as in Texas) for a few months on a consulting contract and was looking for ladies to go dancing with, or for places to go dancing. If you partner dance, I like swing and hustle, some salsa. I love to dance! It is either dancing or I have to get to the gym to workout, and dancing is so much more fun...

In most religions dancing is NOT a sin. So its very much open to interpretation. If it is a sin than the whole catholic nations of Ireland, Italy and Spain are headed to that hot place! So.....Dance on!

Dancing is not sinful, that's a false teaching, on the contrary I would say it is a good way for the opposite genders to be together non-sexually.
If though it leads to temptation then it may be a problem, but the problem would not be with the dancing.

For openers, I was sent to Methodist Sunday School every week as a kid. At some point as a teen ager I realized I had not learned much about what they had been trying to teach me, so I quit attending.

Over the years I have come to realize that I think most religions are just perpetrating some sort a big fiction to keep their flocks. And I don't understand how seemingly intelligent adults can be so gullible and buy into this, and live their lives around, and are so dedicated to the "miracles and mysteries" that churches perpetuate.

I am now a total disbeliever. Call me an atheist. I'm happy this way - so don't waste any prayers on me. I don't want to join all of those hypocrites like Falwell, Bakker, and more ad nauseum, in Heaven, if such a place really exists.
Enough about me.

Anyway, Reis -
A couple questions and thoughts on your post.
There are hundreds of Christian churches and denominations with as many different beliefs and philosophies. Many of them allow dancing and other activities that your church might not tolerate. Did you check out your Baptist religion well before deciding to join? Apparently not well enough. If that church isn't a good fit to allow your dancing, why not explore other churches that do allow it?Or none at all? Who the heck are they to decide what you can and can't do for pleasure?

I am free of all of these issues and pressures because I choose not to become involved with religion. I'm totally FREEEEEEE of all that baggage!!!

Someday I'll just die and become a few specks of cosmic dust - from whence I originally came . . .

It works for me. Religion sure doesn't control how I live my life.
Why do you allow them to control yours?

Dan

Read the Old Testament...King David danced to worship and honor his God...Southern Baptists dont outlaw dancing, but rather frown on it...because it can lead to other ares of sinning...or causing someone else to stumble and sin...which is a definite biblical no-no!
(ever seen the movie "DIRTYdancing?)

YEARS ago I use to do church musicals. I was just a kid. One of the musicals had some pretty upbeat songs in them. While practicing I suggested we could snap our fingers and maybe move around a litle bit since the song really made you want to do it. I couldn' for the life of me understand why they didn't want us to. I think we ended up being able to bend our knees a little so we could bob up and down but the snapping to the rhythm was definitely out.
