where have all the free sites gone....?

Not ten years ago, I experienced the wonderful world known as the world wide web for the first time. Back then, it was perhaps the last frontier of the human created world that had not yet felt the effects of that which we call the market. You could do just about anything, or find information about anything, and no one asked for a fee. It was just there to provide an outlet for anyone who had something to give. Over time, this has unfourtunatly all changed. What once was a relativley free domain created solely for the purpose of exchanging ideas and information has succombed to the fate of all other frontiers of human exploration...

That is, some greedy bastard got the bright idea to erect a sign and a booth, and start selling shit. Yet again, what once was free has become just another big marketplace, only this time, free is the bait, and usefullness is the hook. If you want to get anything done, someone is going to demand a price.

Why is it that after all these years of evolving, we still feel the need to shit on everything that has the potential to free us from the self-inflicted slavery of greed? I still have hope for liberation, but the longer we wait, the higher the ultimate price will be. Karma never forgets, folks...

it's because we fear we will lack -- we better profit now otherwise we'll wind up poor. we better design special ships to dump grain in the ocean, or the market will plummet, and we'll all lose, not just those "starving africans" -- it is well known that we now produce enough and have enough ingenuity for everyone to live a comfortable life with access to food, housing, healthcare and education, but well, few really believe it! they would rather go on believing poverty is inevitable so they don't have to do anything about it...

You hit the nail on the head in your fourth word....FEAR...

Fear is the driving force of division.

Love is the gravity that draws us back together.

I'm so glad I met you!
