Ya could hardly see for all the snow
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they would go
Pull a chair up to the TV set
"Goodnight David..Goodnight Chet"
Depending on what channel ya tuned in.

Ya got Rob and Laura or Ward and June
It felt so good.It felt so right.
Life was better in black and white.

I Love Lucy,The Real McCoys,Dennis The Menace,The Cleaver boys..
Rawhide,Gunsmoke,Wagontrain,Superman,Jimmy and Lois Lane..
Father Knows Best,Patty Duke,Rin Tin Tin and Lassie too.Donna Reed on Thursday night..
They all looked better in black and white.

I wanna go back to black and white ..
Everything just turned out right.
Simple people,simple lives
Good guys always won the fights.

Now nothing works in the way it seems
In living color on the TV screen
Too many murders,too many fights.
I wanna go back to black and white.

In God they trusted, alone in bed they slept.
A promise made,was a promise kept.
They never cussed or broke their vows.
They'd never make the network now.
But if I could I'd rather be..
In a town in '53.

It felt so good,it felt so right..
Life looked better in black and white.
I'd trade all the channels on the satellite
If I could just turn back the clock tonight..
To when everyone knew wrong from right..
Life was good in black and white.

Soo....I am getting out my old black and white ..tuning in the rabbit ears...and yep there he is my favorite show...Have Gun..Will Travel.Paladin, sitting on his big black horse.I was gonna marry that man when I grew up.

You're tuning in ain't ya...move them ears the other way..there thats it!...What are you watching in black and white?

When someone comes along, gonna give ya some love and affection,I say..Get it while ya can.

Hiya mz,

I remember the days of having only three channels to choose from..and if the President decided to speak...there was no place to go!!!!

Back in those days:

The Good Guys were good guys!!
The Bad Guys always showed themselves as what they were.
Sinatra and the Rat Pack were cool (still are, in my book)
The police always got their man...and went home safely afterwards.
Reporters just reported the news....they didn't offer their 'slant' on the news.
Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason, and Uncle Miltie made you poking fun of themselves, not others.

And..I must admit, , I had the biggest crush on Mary Ann!!!

Nowadays, I just watch my favorite movies in black and white...Casablanca, In Harm's Way, and the like....though, I'll flip over to the Western Channel to watch Gene Autry 'Back in the Saddle Again'

Thanks for the trip back....and I never could figure out how Laura Petrie & Lucy Ricardo got pregnant sleeping in separate beds.

Honestly, if it means getting drunk on popular culture, I'll pass on understanding it. All this stuff is rerun over and over and over again, mostly for the gratification of people over 40. That's ok by me, but I fail to see why you think we won't understand you??? We are awash in you, and there's not much else to do in florida.

This is so... um... "spooky" sort of... I was just thinking along these lines this morning while I was getting ready for work, kind of half-listening to the morning news on t.v. and remembering that there never used to be such a thing as "Morning News" (probably cuz Chet and David, and Walter, and Frank Reynolds didn't get up so early!) You've conjured up quite a lot of good memories for me today! And those old westerns? Those were Dad's favorites... and when there was only one t.v. in the house, those nights belonged to Dad! which wasn't a bad thing, either... (remember the one Statler Bros. song: "Ah, Do You Remember") Too bad I have to go to work... I've got a sudden craving to spend the day watching "TV Land" Network!

Oh, thanks for "checking out" my blog... and picture... I like the one you're using now... well, all of them, really!

I belong to the Twilight Zone and I can be found in the Outer Limits.
I always knew that Father Knows Best, and we could Leave it to Beaver to surprise us.
At least then we were Bewitched by the real thing.
Now I don't recognize anyone. Its too sad.

Hey, I'm 18 and still watch classic black and white shows like lone ranger and rawhide. Always been a wild west fan. Is it just me or did black and white TV make classic actors and actresses so much more attractive? People laugh as I say that I would love to of been on set with Sophia Loren, for most people to turn round and ask me who she was. It's also sad knowing that when I first developed a crush on an actor after watching Captain Blood, god, did Errol Flynn look so fine in that film!

favorite quote from ,Leave it to Beaver...
"Ward you were a little hard on the beaver last night"... I hated that show...Ranks right up there for "Patty Duke"
my favorites were:Green Hornet,Sugarfoot,Lost in Space(I had large crush on Penny),Star Trek(no bloody A,B,C,or D...Sure it was corny, but few realize how advanced it was for its time)
I loved the westerns ,cept when they started singin...My beer was made by hires and was best served with vanilla ice cream...At a local Isaly's store...Penny candy,a whole bag assorted to your specs 5 cents....A quarter was real money....cokes were a nickle and you had to return the bottle.....with a dollar you could ruin yer supper...Ya kill me Mzhunny....thanks for joggin my memories...

OMG, MzHuny, if you come to VA to visit Goddess, you will find a sign on her office door that sez: You are now entering..The Twilight Zone.
The Lone Ranger galloped through my mind and I always adored Tonto being Lone's trusted and valued companion. We all need a Tonto in our lives..don't you think? As for I Love Lucy? My heart still breaks for my love and companion of 16 years...a toy poodle that was born on Lucille Ball's birthday that I named *Lucy*...Everybody loved Lucy!

Do I remember........oh yeah...and still watch the reruns sometimes late at night when I can pull myself away from blogland. I remember
the Micky Mouse Club in Black and White and always adored Loretta Young as she romantically swooped down her staircase in a beautiful, flowing chiffoned fabric of a gown.......

Just a little food for thought.............

How about the Howdy Doody Club, Burns and Allen, and the very risque Groucho Marx show. Now the world seems to be focused on "reality shows", I don't know about you but I live reality every day and I don't find it all that entertaining to watch at night. I certainly miss the good ol' days.

Yea those were good times in lots of ways. I didn`t watch much TV when I was a teen...Too busy running around in my `57 Chevy looking for girls. That was a real cool car but compared to todays technology it was pretty primative. Didn`t even have seatbelts.

Of course there were problems like racism, the cold war, Vietnam and having to worry about the BOMB. Would I go back to that time? Yea but just for a visit. I wouldn`t want to live there anymore. Besides my kids and grandkids weren`t around then.

Akira Kusosawa's "Shichenen no Samurai" has got to be one of the greatest films ever. So skillfully done and led onto a huge revolution in Japanese cinema which we still see today. If you like the film you may want to watch the anime adaptation, "Samurai Seven" as it is really keeps some of the authentic feel.

Am I the only one to have watched Jack Benny? We only had ONE channel in our small southern community, but even though there wasn't a choice we enjoyed what we watched.
Combat was one of my favorites. I am forever in love with Vic Morrow whereever he may be.
The Untouchables.
Bugs Bunny is STILL my favorite cartoon show. That's when cartoons were really cartoons, not this cheap crap they show kids nowadays.
Ed Sullivan was the greatest "shoe" always...from Tito the mouse (kiss me goodnight Eddie) to Bo Jangles ..."the old soft shoe".
Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, HeeHaw, shows you wouldn't be embarrassed watching with your children.

Oh, but I am too young to have actually SEEN these programs in their first runs. I am talking about reruns....

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I, for one (and may be 2 including you) would welcome going back to the good old days. When are people (especially politicans)going to learn there is a limit to trying to legislate morality? Denace the menace, the patty duke show, dick van dyke, the mary tyler moore show... Now I turn on Nick at Nite and see the Fresh Prince of Bel Air... I feel as if I've aged 50 years just in the past 15 years when it comes to tv.

Remember when a "Ho" was something you farmed with...
And "Crack" was a joke shared between friends

We went to the moon on a computer that didn't have the power of todays digital wristwatch.... and yet today we can't even think about going to the moon anymore

Life was allot simpler in those days. You got into a fight at school and the next day you where friends again.... Today the kids harbor their emotions and bring a gun to school

Yesterday, your heart would race just to hold the hand of a girl you admired and finally got a chance to date. Today you need to worry about "Date Drugs".

Yesterday we did things with an conscious, they may not have always been right, but they where done with a conscious. Today some things are done without a conscious, a plan or even the simplest of thought...

Yesterday we lived with "the Bomb" and laughted at "I Love Lucy". Today we where about a powder, a suitcase, a simple cough (what could it be??) and we laugh at comedy that detracts against all the family values we learned and loved so dearly...

What happened!?! Life has changed quite a bit for those 40+, I can't say I see that much progress in todays new generation...

The Munsters and Lassie a childs delight, Saturday Morning was the best, it was time for bugs and all the rest. My dad's favorite...Gunsmoke on a Saturday night. then Sunday arose with silence and we knew the weekend was over the tele was no longer ours. The music began the bubbles were flowing we all knew the sound, the pop, yup it was Lawerance....and the crew. Please dad give us a break The beatles on eight or bandstand on ten. no was the answer yet we still Love our Dad.
