All aboard the Skylark.

Have you ever sailed in one of these?

If you haven't,its a felluca,a small sailing boat, sailing up and down the river Nile in Egypt, you can hire them by the hour or maybe for the day or you could go on a little adventure and sail down the Nile for some days,me and a few others were visiting the Aga Khans mausoleum on the far bank of the Nile opposite Aswan,we came across a guy with a rowing boat who would row us to Elephantine Island for a few pounds. On the Island we meet Captain Said, who proudly shows us his felluca,we discuss terms with him for hiring his services and his boat and taking us to Sidi Ifni.

Later we meet some others in our gang and we all agree to go on Captain Saids boat,we go to the market in Aswan and buy all the food and water we think we will need for are 3 day trip.

We did not realize this, but Captain Said has brought along his cabin boy who prepared and cooked all the meals, all we got to do is enjoy the trip, the boat makes it way downriver with the current but also by sailing from one side of the river to the other,at night time we would moor the felluca and have a big fire on the riverbank, then sleep on the boat, when we arrive at Sidi Ifni the end of our journey.Captain Said asks us all to write something in his book.So he can show new customers,we all leave glowing comments to him and his felluca.

If you find yourself in the area, look him up,he is a man of Honor.

Yep...I've sailed on a few feluccas. The nicest way I know to escape the oppressive Egyptian heat.
