What is Fair?

Is fairness purely the perspective that we see something from? Or is there really a fair answer.

the religious zealot feels its fair for a gay man to get AIDS
the jilted lover feels its fair to manipulate the court system for more money
the bereaved parent feels its fair to take the life of someone who took their child away
the disgruntled employee feels its fair to steal from the company

all perception , feelings , complex emotions , a mix of parental teaching , experience , spiritual imput , just perception of human beings who are convinced they are RIGHT beyond all reason or indications otherwise

That is what I was afraid of. Hmmmmm, very well thought out MangoMami!

So, then my next question is - Can 'justice' be fair?

    Quoting PreciousOrchid:
I think it is very hard to judge what is fair if you are personally involved in a situation, it requires a person to put aside their feelings and truely consider the other side. How many of us can be truely impartial when it comes to ourselves, our family/friends, culture etc.
Although Mango did put it into perspective I believe Precious explained it in the manner I would have, so ditto to her sentiments.

Deep Mav...real deep.

From my perspective...NO! Regardless, it will always be the case for anything, always smothered in opinion and preference. We think we`re being just, fair and righteous, and tell me...who the hell are WE???

maverick1255 replies on 7/22/2006 12:12 am:
Yes, who is the 'we'!!!!! That is coming very much into play!! Who is in control of the 'we'?

Fairness in the eye of the beholder!!!! Very true!!!

So, the goal would be to screw both parties the least! I see that.

Hi Mav,
1) Moral codes run thru human existence...it is beyond human where conscience are derived from
2) wisdom level could mean tough love, it isn't just superfacial kindness
3)being fair and kind in everyday life.
That is just my perspective Mav.

maverick1255 replies on 7/22/2006 12:19 am:
Yes, I have to agree that to be fair you need to look at a bigger picture of society for the moral codes. And act with wisdom to solve any problem.

Very well said Flo.

Sirmounts...that's hilarious. LOL!

Mav, there's always four sides to any story:

Person 1: what he sees and what he doesn't want to
Person 2: what he sees and what he doesnt' want to

Then there's the truth...which is something in between and all of the above mixed together.

It sounds like maybe you are being hard on yourself and possibly someone else. go have some fun. You'll feel better.

Yup...this juiciness is from me....

maverick1255 replies on 7/22/2006 12:23 am:
Ah, Shannee is trying to read into the situation. Sorry, nothing connected to this post.

Just was thinking of the term 'justice'. And what is 'fair'. And how the hell do you even try to come out with something close!!!!!

Well, I am always hard on myself. I have been since I was very young. That is a whole other ball of wax!!!!

fairness is the middle ground between two opposing views

Don't worry, be Happy

maverick1255 replies on 7/22/2006 12:30 am:
Ah, very well said F2C2!!!!

But does fairness always take into account what is just, or right?

Middle ground, hmmmmm.

Thank you Free2Chose2, for stopping in. I always welcome new opinions!! Stop back by.

nope, someone will think that the an answer is fair, but not to other person. simply, there's no fair answer. we will say its fair cuz its fair for us, its kinda our ego, i think

maverick1255 replies on 7/22/2006 12:31 am:
Yes, ego can very well get in the way of fairness.

Justice in this country seems to be the popular opinion carried out to action .

The mob mentality plays such a huge role in all of our lives .

The only true justice is natural consequences. Where human beings play no part in the outcome . We harvest natural resources like they are endless and the weather turns on us and distroys our homes . That is the only "true" justice I can think of .

maverick1255 replies on 7/22/2006 12:38 am:
Owww, natural consequences? Let mother nature sort is all out. Very interesting.

I have to agree. I am a firm believer that we are only borrowing this world, and should leave it better than we found it. But big business is sure this land as fast as it can. We really need penalties that are far greater than the profit!!! Then we would see change. But those that are making the profit, are setting the penalties!!!

Oh, sorry, we digress. But maybe for another discussion.

We tell kids at school, "Fair isn't everyone getting the same thing, fair is everyeone getting what they need." When you approach fair as something other than equal, it changes how you look at your actions and oportunities.

maverick1255 replies on 7/22/2006 5:39 pm:
Interesting? Seeing fair as what "someone needs".

Thanks W2C!

it's based on our own bias....so fairness is biased...figure that one out

That is what it seems! Crazy!!! Now, I am really confused!!!
