In the Quiet of the Night

In the quiet of the night,
With the darkness absolute,
When things just don’t seem right,
That the day will dawn is moot.
And the windows echo rain,
But silence floods the world,
And my heart just bursts with pain,
My arms, to you unfurl.
But like the empty life I live,
My hand seeks everywhere,
But you have no more to give,
And I recall that you’re not there.

In the quiet of the night,
With the darkness all around,
I wake with sudden fright,
From dreams that do abound.
And a tear rolls down my cheek,
When I remember that you’ve gone,
But my ears still try to seek,
Your gentle, sleeping song.
But like the empty life I live,
My ears seek everywhere,
But you have no more to give,
And I recall that you’re not there.

In the quiet of the night,
In the darkness all night long,
I think of what was right,
And where it all went wrong.
And my heart cries out your name,
Which echoes through the room,
And things are not the same,
And I’m drowning in my doom.
But like the empty life I live,
My heart seeks everywhere,
But you have no more to give,
And I recall that you’re not there.

In the quiet of the night,
In the darkness all alone,
I think it’d work out right,
If only you were home.
And my soul’s an empty space,
Where your soul’s light once shone,
But to you, now I’m just a face,
I could be anyone.
But like the empty life I live,
My soul seeks everywhere,
But you have no more to give,
And I recall that you’re not there.
