Why are you doing this to me?

You have hurt me in so many ways that you can’t even begin to understand what you have done to me.

Again, you are telling me he is not my son. And you now tell me you want to put him up for adoption because it is too hard for you to take care of him by yourself.

So I ask, if you have no desire to raise him on you own, why don’t you send him to me? As far as I’m concerned he is my son. I raised him by myself for the first 5 months of his life while you ran back to New York City chasing imaginary problems. Why did you take him from me if you did not wish to raise him yourself?

Now you’re dying again, and want to make sure he has someone to take care of him. But you have a problem; I am on his birth certificate as his father. I voluntarily legitimated him the second day of his life. Neither can be ignored by the State adoption agencies. And until proven otherwise, I am his father.

It matters not to me who the sperm donor may be. There is more to being a parent than biology; a sad fact, proven all too often by way too many mothers these days. And now you have joined their ranks, and desire to be rid of your maternal obligations with a clear conscience.

So again, I ask, why not send him to me? Ah… I see. I am a man, and therefore incapable of raising a child by myself. So you would rather have complete strangers raise him instead of his father? I know, I know, you keep telling me I’m not his father.

The answer is no. My son deserves better.

wow....beautiful. So many men will not take the responsibility of a child. You are truly a man. I am blown away by this blog...honestly blown away.

There is only one reason she wont leave the boy with you....it will mean she will be paying CS until he is either 18, 21 or even 25 in some states...

if she puts him up for adoption it will cost her nothing and he wont be reappearing...

but if she is dying and refusing to leave him with you...you would have to wonder if she is dying...

Kudos to the men who take responsibility for fatherhood -- even if they question whether or not it is biologically his. My best friend has done the same ... and I admire him greatly for that!!!

Contact an attorney who specializes in custody cases. Based upon my very limited knowledge of this subject, it is my understanding since you are listed on the birth certificate as the father then you have parental rights and can seek custody of your son, especially if you can demonstrate you can provide a stable home environment and the custodial parent will not or cannot. My best to you in this endeavor. You're right, your son deserves better.

When a child
is in danger

no mountain will be
too high to climb

no river to deep
to get across

no road too busy
to travel on

when your child
is in danger

your heart bleeds
filled with hurt

the hurt will end
the child is safe

when surrounded
by love yet again

sometimes things
look just too pale

to believe in any
form of justice

but that day will come
rest assured

sword and shield
together, invincible
