Old Toy Trains

Whenever I think of my eldest son, I always think of Roger Miller’s Christmas song ‘Old Toy Trains’. I use to sing this song to him every night as a lullaby. He still wants to hear it at night whenever I visit him.

Old toy trains, little toy tracks
Little boy toys coming from a sack
Carried by a man dressed in white and red
Little boy, don't you think it's time you were in bed?

Close your eyes
Listen to the skies
All is calm, all is well
Soon you'll hear Kris Kringle and the jingle bells

Bringing old toy trains …

Roger Miller

I will be going back to Georgia to visit him this weekend and part of next week. His birthday is on Sunday; he will be 5 years old. Of course, I will have to make up some lines about little toy planes, remote control trucks, motorcycles (a real one Daddy), rockets (rockets?), and Thomas DVDs, and ...

Just being able to see him smile will be my father’s day present.

And then I’ll be off to visit (one hopes) with my youngest son ...

Here's hoping you have a great (and uncomplicated) Father's Day!
