My First Lady

She gave me life, she gave me breath
and she'll be with me until death.

Overworked and underpaid,
a happy home she always made.

Advised me through my troubling times,
forgave me for my juvenile crimes.

Always there, through laughs and tears.
While playing sports, I heard her cheers.

Shared her wisdom as we got older.
Warmed in her arms when life got colder.

Nursed me through my aches and pains.
Encouraged all my personal gains.

Carried me when I couldn't carry myself.
Taught and loved me like no one else.

Showed me what a woman should be
and the softer side of me.

George has Laura and Nancy was Ron's,
Abe had Martha and Jackie was John's.

For all of the traits and ways she made me,
thanks to momma, my very first lady.

That's a beautiful poem, a beautiful sentiment.
