Kicked Some Ass!

Gers back. Not only safely from his softball tournament but feeling oh so much better. Seems that a weekend of vigorous activity after a month and a half of recuperation and getting kicked in the nuts by life has a certain level rejuvination to it.

So here's the report, left SB on Friday to go to Santa Clarita which is close to LA. Feeling a little worried about if I could play, how well I would play and if I would exacerbate my previous injury by playing. This is a major tournament encompassing teams from Central and Southern California with 22 teams participating.

Go to the fields early at 7am on Saturday. It's already about 80 degrees. Warm up and test a few body parts... they seem to work without pain. Informed the coach that I would be ok not playing my accustomed spot, Left Field, and he politely declines. So out we go.

First game, first inning, a ball is hit to my left.... same scenario as when my injury occured. My head worked faster than the appendages could receive the demands. Man... my feet tied up... I twisted a few different ways. Ball got by me... just not ready I guess.

First at bat... same thing. Didn't want to go out swinging... just wanted to test things out. I normally hit the ball hard, go opposite direction a lot, but this time I just swung easy. No problems. Everything seemed to be working.

So we continued on... won the game. Second game at 10am, its now about 90 degrees, start to kick it up a little. Went 4 for 4. All line drives and made the plays in the field. No diving opportunities presented themself. This is probably a good thing. We win.

Third and Fourth games on Saturday. Keep escalating things up. Now 104 degrees. I don't think I have ever had so much fluids to drink and never had to use the bathroom. We win both.

Sundays game are elimination based on previous days seedings. We are number 1 seed. We win every game to go the finals. Final game and we are back and forth. Somewhere in the 4 or 5 inning gotta ball coming my way. Gotta commit or not and ended up going for it. Phew, got the catch and everything is still intact. We end up losing the game but came in second.

I'm tired, depleted of fluids, sunburned, and very sore, but I also feel very, very good.

Guess this means I can go back to Yoga, back to running and back to weighlifting. All those things that make me feel good that I have been missing so much lately and that I could have used.

That's the report on my weekend. Loving you all, ger.

See, good things do happen and it was good you had a weekend like that after all the other stuff going on in your life.
Thanks for the update.

I know about the good things in life... I used to be the eternal optimist, but that was when I ignored the bad things and did not process them. It was a great weekend!

Welcome home, buddy! I'm glad you played. I'm even more glad you played well. Mostly, though, I'm glad you had fun and made it home safely.

Life beckons. Go kick some ass there, too!

Congratulations on your return! What positon do you play? And, what kind of injury did you have that kept you away from yoga?

Days when I have yoga class are the best!

rm_gerson42 replies on 7/3/2006 9:10 am:
Thank you. Play left field. The injury was two broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Just couldn't performs the positions necessary for the yoga or the breathing.
