To My Whistle Pig

There is a woman that I have known for over 25 years. We have fought with each other and for each other. We have shared the same bed, sat on the toilet while the other showered, (and both complained equally). We have shared make-up, hair products, not clothes, she is long and lean, I am .. not (lol).

The first time that I met her, I was still fairly young, but not always nice. My brother brought her home to meet the family. He had warned her about me, and told her that I took great pleasure in being mean to his girlfriends. As she sat there in that crazy chair that my father had made with his own two hands (we called this chair the electric chair, it looked like one), you could tell she felt foolish and uncomfortable. She was shy and very young, I think at the time she was only 15 years old. She was very pretty, very blond, very tall, very thin. I sat across from her, sprawled rudely on the couch, shooting her a glare every now and then. She attempted to make conversation with me, but I ignored her, or answered her with a mumble and a glare. She looked near tears, but she didn’t give in, still with the smile on her face. Suddenly my mother’s little dog came up and lifted his leg on her shoe, peeing all over her foot. We all sat there for a minute, not knowing what to say, but she began to laugh, and I knew that I would love this woman.

When her first son was born, there was a terrible storm, and roads were icy. My brother was away, and couldn’t get home. She called me, I went and picked her up, and helped to bring my nephew into the world, an honor that I will never forget or be able to repay.

We have drank ourselves into oblivion more than once. We have sang, danced, gambled, shouted, cursed, hugged, cried and laughed together for over 25 years now. She has been my best friend at times, and my worst enemy others. I think that for the first time in the 25 years that I have known her, I realize how much she means to me. How much I love her, and cherish her. Today she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Today Sandra Louise my little Whistle Pig, I feel how much I love you. Thank you to [blog Firehot2003] and his blog "GO ON CHECK YOURSELF DO IT NOW!!!!!!"
