The Tri Color Rises in the Morning

I am not from Ireland, but am of Irish heritage. I have many friends from Ireland, and love them all very much. They have endured some incredible hardships during their lives, past and recent, and have come from it with hearts strong and sure. They remember their past and live with it every day, but have used it to build a strong future. On a recent visit to Ireland, I learned some valuable lessons about making sure that the history doesn't repeat itself. Unfortunately there is an incredible amount of ignorance out there still. There is a blog Fuck Me, I Am A Humanist !! that is a prime example ignorance, showing no knowledge of what Irish means. I don't expect people to know about all of this, or even care really, but if you don't know, or care, don't pretend to, or make silly comments about it. I wouldn't dare comment on your heritage, because I don't know about it, or sad to say... care. And o btw:

EIREANN GO BRA

Hey there...

I am taking a course right now on gender studies where all we are reading is Irish Literature...it is crazy because i have never really just learned anything about constructions of identity in Ireland before. It seems though from what i have read, and i do want to visit at some point, the Irish are racialized, confined, and a rather hybrid culture due to the dominance of England and "Englishness" for so long...i am definitely interested in learning more about Ireland and women in Ireland...

Being a Brit, I have absolutely no controversial opinions at all on the subject of Ireland. In fact, I don't even know where it is.

I'm sorry, forget I was ever here.

Gata, good post, its amusing that the same person who portrays such ignorance, has been voted as the funniest female blogger by the good and 'friendly' people of this site. Goes to show that the ignorance of the majority is the norm in this fantasyland.

em, it is amazing, since i've not seen any humour at all from there.. guess it depends on the twist as to what is considered funny, i've tried to be twisted,, and succeeded in many ways, just cant get bent that far i guess xoxo gata

hugs4...you are a breath of fresh air ....i like you are in much the same situation...although i am catholic by birth and live in galway i have protestant relatives in many parts of n. ireland of whom i am very proud. i have seen friends of mine leave the shankill road with their whole family and go to live in england because of the troubles. but to see that you and many more like you coming into the provence is testament to the resilience of the irish people to seek to solve the divisional problems.

it makes me wonder why a person from another country should ridicule this country and its people for being irish and celebrate that fact. is it that the irish (both north and south) are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the european union and that an agenda is being setup through various media to try and undermine it.

mockeen... we should all be able to enjoy and participate in the holidays and custom of other people and heritage. I dont think tho that for Kwaanza, Rosh Hashonah, Ramadan, Native American Day, Veterans Day, or the Cinco de Mayo would have us dressed in silly costumes joking about all of these different beliefs and heritages drunken behavior and making out they are wife beaters and terrorists. It would be quite insulting to tell a joke about a Mexican holiday with a Mexican accent, written or spoken.. It would be deemed racist and unacceptable.. xoxo gata
