Our Chemical Compatibility

Ahh the age old question.. what attracts one to another. There has been a recent study done (ya i know.. another study) that focuses on what particular bit of body chemestry builds our different "type" of romantic make-up.. I know there are endless studies on physical and emotional attraction, and most amount to nothing in particular, but this one interests me, because I do happen to believe there are body signals that we give out, usually without intention, that attract others to us. Helen Fisher, an anthropologist and author explains her chemical theory as being in four major temperments: Builder, Negotiator, Explorer, and Director.

The Builder
Chemical in charge: Serotonin (associated with sociability and feelings of calm)
Personality: Calm, managerial, conscientious, home-oriented but social
Best match: The Explorer
Least likely match: The Director

The Negotiator
Chemical in charge: Estrogen (associated with intuition and creativity)
Personality: Imaginative, sympathetic, socially skilled, idealistic
Best match: Good with all types!
Least likely match: None

The Explorer
Chemical in charge: dopamine (associated with curiosity and spontaneity)
Personality: Risk-taking, spontaneous, curious, adaptable
Best match: The Builder
Least likely match: The Director

The Director
Chemical in charge: testosterone (associated with independence and rational thinking)
Personality: focused, inventive, daring, logical, direct
Best match: The Negotiator
Least likely match: The Builder

Based on these discriptions, I think I am a cross between the Negotiator and the Explorer.. mainly because of requirements of being rational (The Director) and managerial and conscientious behavior (The Builder). I don't have a drop of the requirements of those two really.

But I have to say, where love is concerned, I think there is more magic involved than anything...chemical compatibility or no.
