Funny Place This Is

Yesterday, on my way home from work, there were three groups standing on opposite corners of the highway. One group was made up of four people, they looked to be in their late 60's. Two men and two women. All waving American flags, one woman dressed in a short wool Army jacket, and an Army dress cap. On the two opposing corners, were college students, all fresh faced and young. Some had their hair in dreadlocks, all holding signs "Peace Now!" "No More War". All three groups were waving to the passing cars, laughing with each other, and to the other groups... having a great time. But saying more than their signs offered.
Freedom...
Friday night, work is done.
Freedom to stand on a corner and say what you want to say.
Freedom to laugh at ourselves and each other. Freedom.
The cost is high, but the reward is great.
I suppose.

Freedom is something that we in the US take for granted too often.

Freedom is beautiful thing!! And is something we all take for granted!! Hundreds of thousands of American soldiers have lost life and limb for the rest of us to be able to voice our opinions and scream from street corners!! No!!! Pacifist here!!!

However gotta agree with those street corner screamers!! Seems like our boys are dying to prove the point of a slighlty above retarded!!! Pres. And to think America voted this guy to 4 more years!!!! We need Bill Clinton back!!!!

hbowt, your irish blood speaks for itself, and the message rang clear, making all the difference. I have to wonder tho, with what we are doing in the middle east now, if the sacrifice is going to be worth the reward. My father, being the redneck republican that he is, actually made a good point. We are killing each other here on the streets, faster, then they are killing there.. another bell, ringing loudly. xoxo gata

gata, some in this little country confuse freedom with greed. Even though we have a history of being colonised, it seems to be lost on most. We are selling ourselves for a few pieces of silver, selfishness and delusions of grandeur have become the norm. The first place for freedom is within ourselves, many are chained by the false dreams that modern society pretends to offer.

em... that is a great point.. i think all of this that we are doing is due to greed.. not some kind of grand humanitarian effort.. and i know exactly what you are saying.. exactly xoxo gata
