I met up with a friend last night that I haven’t seen in a long time and we were reminiscing about some of the good, bad and embarrassing times we’ve shared together. Although these aren’t exactly my most embarrassing moments, they were the most public and I thought I would share them. My most embarrassing moments are the ones where things were a little more private. Once I get to know you people a little better, maybe I’ll share those with you too.
My friend and I used to DJ for various business functions where anywhere from a few hundred to about 15,000 people would attend. At these functions we would play music while people were finding their seats and to bring up guest speakers onto the stage. Once the speaker was talking to the audience our job was done.
The first story was at a function where there were a couple of hundred people at. The function was in a small auditorium and we were set up near the front to the side of the stage where everyone in the audience could see us. A speaker was talking and my friend was trying to listen to some music and thought he had the music only playing in is headphones. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. He ended up blasting the music for everyone to hear. Of course everyone started looking at us. I decided to hide under the table so people would know it wasn’t me that made the mistake. To my chagrin, while I was hiding, my friend was pointing at me to make it seem like I was the one that screwed up. Everyone got a big laugh at my expense.
The second story occurred at a function with about 2000 people in attendance. One of the people we were working with was pointing a spotlight at the speaker on stage. He needed to use the bathroom and asked if I could take over for a few minutes while he was gone. The speaker was pretty much standing in one place, so I really didn’t have to do anything. Stupid me decided to climb up behind the spotlight in case the speaker moved instead of just standing beside the spotlight. As I was climbing behind the light, my ass bumped the light and moved it to the side, pointing it at the audience instead of the speaker. I quickly moved the light back onto the speaker, but it was too late. Everyone turned around to look at me and the speaker from stage even made a comment to make the situation even worse.
Needless to say, people haven’t forgotten those situations and they are more than willing to make sure I don’t forget them either.
Now that I’ve humbled myself to all of you, I would love to hear some of your embarrassing moments.
