Men vs Women and "libido" issues

It seems to be a well established "fact" that in general, as we age, men's libido seems to progressively decline while a woman's increases. Clearly there are individual variations (and don't wish to debate the issue on an individual basis). However, while "bantering" this point with a lady friend (feel free to identify yourself if you like) online a week or so ago, we both wondered--

What is the "evolutionary" advantage? Of what benefit to the "species" is a peaking (or significant increase) of libido in woman as they age, and what inpact does a declining libido have in the male counterart?

I fully understand this is more of an "academic" question, but it would be interesting to see some of the members thoughts.

A possible "answer"? While recovering after a heated session with a couple friend of mine recently, we perhaps developed one potenital "hypothesis". Women (globally) still outlive men, on average. Historically, the life expectance of men was at best late 30's early 40s, largely leaveing women with the kids to raise and no "support". A highly sexual woman, able to attract a younger stud, provides both security for the family and some added pleasure for herself.

My belief is that men are to be the provider and women are to populate. As both age, women have an increase need to populate the planet as eggs are limited and Men near the same age, pull away from procrating as their ablity to "provide" (like forge food as cave men)decrease.

OR

an awful joke God places on us women for the hears we said no honey I have a head ache?

I'm less concerned with matching libidos than I am with men's understanding of women's sexuality; or lack of, rather. While you, Dancer, have it nailed (nicely) it seems many men do not know what turns a woman on. Now, with the caveat that there is variety among women, most women prefer relationship to visual. Whereas a man would perhaps respond with arousal to photos of genitalia, a woman is more likely to respond to a "connection," however slight. Women will look at a man's face rather than secondary sex characteristics.

In general, women are aroused by the more subtle aspects of mating; men seem to prefer the in-you-face (literally) approach. If you want to arouse a woman, focus on creating a connection. Start a relationship (no, not commitment). Romance...send a pic of a flower. It will get you a lot farther than a pic of an erect penis. For most women, that is.

I believe a woman's sexual drive has a lot to do with the age of her children also. When a woman has small children at home she is less inclined to desire sex because she is so tired all the time. Once a woman's children reach an age where they are no longer in need of mom full time she realizes what she has been missing and her body chemistry also starts changing. With the development of more testosterone in her body she is much more sexual whereas the man when aging loses his testosterone level.

Interesting insight and analysis...sounds like you are right on the mark. Question? Does the woman's testosterone production increase, or is it correlated with a decrease in estrogen, and thus an apparent increase in the ratio of the 2 hormones?
