Look what they've done to my song....

This might be one of those posts that are long and rambling, but mean a lot to me...

I guess I'm just feeling a little upset about the state of music in commercials. Specifically, my music.

My 80's new wave music.

Pretty in Pink by the Psychedelic Furs is selling Pink Razor phones. The Buzzcocks were selling Toyota's last year.

sigh.

I guess the huge problem with this is that I already have memories, great, high school memories attached to these songs, and now I have to associate them with..stuff!

Not making out with Michael Sugrue, getting my hand down his pants for the first time

or

smoking out my bedroom window, drunk on wine coolers at 2 in the am...

driving back from the beach in a car just packed full with kids...

I have such a strong relationship between music and memory..

Oh, wait.. that's the nail in the coffin...

Rhapsody in Blue in a DSW ad...

The horror...the horror.......

lol, I have spent a lifetime, living that one. I can remember back in the 80s, my first job was being a dj for a teen dance club, when Heart made their comeback, and the little 13-14 yr olds a the time, thinking and telling me "the greatest new group out", and myslef laughing at them, as I pulled out my "Dreamboat Annie" lp from my collection. Shoot, I was 5 years ahead of everybody in school that found The Beatles, both their early and later songs, before anybody else. My advise, if you hear a remake (butcher) of a classic, grab your most excellent copy, and teach the world the way music is suppose to be....one of the reasons why I hung on to all my lps and 45's lol.....

Blame the artists who sell their songs! Don't blame the advertisers!

I'll blame who I want ! And it's the publishing company, as well. Most artists of a certain time frame have no control over that.
