Lovers and Pets

I've talked with a couple of lovers about our pets. Something I've noticed about lovers that come over is how they treat my pets and how my pets respond to them. A close friend of mine has a gorgeous white cat he calls Mayo and the first time I went to his place, I had to pass "the Mayo test." Which essentially entails the cat sniffing me, rubbing up against me and making sure I'm "okay." Ever since then, I've come to the conclusion that I passed that test with flying colors or have gained extra credit over the months because the cat allows me to pick him up and hold him, even though the cat normally doesn't like being held.

Like Mayo, I've apparently passed the pet test for any other lover I've met that has a pet. Most of my lovers have passed my pets's tests, though one or two have been somewhat questionable.

Have you ever been put to the "Mayo test" by a lover's pet? Have you ever put a lover to that test? Has the test ever helped determine whether that lover is a "keeper" (even if it's not necessarily going to last forever)?

I have, my last long relationship. She had a dog that doesn't like any stangers but the first time she brought me to her house the dog liked me so she knew that I must be a good person for her dog hasn't liked anyone that she has brought home. In fact the dog has stayed with me a few time for the dog didn't want to leave my house. when it was time to go the dog would hide under my table. So I was the only person that passed her Sophie test. We would still be together if we were not living so far apart from eachother. Long distance relationships just don't work with 2 stubbern independant people.
