Google me, baby

I was talking with my ex-lover yesterday, and he brought up a rather interesting fact.

I am on Google, or, rather this persona, (Bucfannn ), is on Google.

Just a little while ago, I typed in my A.F.F. name. There were TWO HUNDRED TWENTY FOUR results. For me, or rather, this handle.

Holy crap.

Two hundred twenty four ways to be found.

Two hundred twenty four ways for someone to find ME.

I don't like that. No. Definitely NO.

Think about it. It's scary as hell. Wait, it's not just scary, it's downright frightening.

By adding up things, a VIRTUAL STRANGER could find anyone. Just from written word.

Forget a shredder for financial stuff you get in the mail. Forget about your identity being stolen. That's just stuff, that can be fixed, (albeit with a lot of heartache involved.)

I am talking about well-being. Safety.
Which to me, is a heck of a lot more important than stuff.

Soooooooooooooooooo, there's gonna be new laws in this town, pardners. Not because I want to, but, because I have to. What I mean by that is... sure, I will still talk about stuff. But, I will not be overtly personal about it. I will make vague references to places or things, and not come right out with specifics.

Proactive of me?

You betcha.

Safety is paramount here. My safety. Prudence, if you will.

I can't afford not to be cautious. And, if you come down to the nitty gritty of it all, neither can you...........

yeah this should be made public knowledge when you sign up here and i dont mean as some miniture paragraph in the 'i agree' box either. BIG RED LETTERS
"Your username, information, blogs, group postings and pictures will be available for anyone who wants to search for you on any search engine in the world because we whore out this stuff to anyone who asks"

It's a bad bad thing and a lot of people use usernames they use for everything in their life which makes it kind of sucky when you show up on google talking about the person you were with over the weekend, especially if you're married lol

Good point Fann. As MrFrumpy said, anything can be had by those who search (and some places make it much easier). I've tried to be "discreet" as the phrase goes, but, I haven't googled myself yet either (other than my real name, etc; always kinda neat what shows up that way; awful lot of my "relatives" in

So, obviously, do what you have to in order to protect yourself. That's the most important thing.

Have a great weekend!

Hugs, C

Just let me know where you're hiding

B.F. It would be prudent for all the Paying Members who blog, to unite and present this concern to AdultFriendFinder, and insist that with their payment, comes the option to "OPT OUT" of their profile names being used in the Advertising of the site!! You all are Literally the "Grease" on the Wheels around here!!
The Whizzes in palo alto could easily shield you profiles! the "CONDOMIZATION" IS THAT EXTRA PERK YOUR PAYMENT SHOULD PROVIDE!!

I am a webmaster with a web site. I have no connection to AdultFriendFinder other than being a regular member. What I am about to say is not in defense of their practices. It is just the way things work. AdultFriendFinder (or any other site) has no control over where your postings show up once it has been spidered by the search engines. The following is copy of the heading of a search I did on a members name:

"Below is a cache of deleted) It's a snapshot of the page taken as our search engine crawled the Web. We've highlighted the words: (name deleted)
The web site itself may have changed. You can check the current page (without highlighting) or check for previous versions at the Internet Archive."

This statement was followed by a listing of 2026 posts made by this member. Posts she made on her blog plus responses she made to postings on other members blogs.

I underlined the snapshot statement, which basically says it all. The point is that ANYTHING you post on the internet is spidered by the search engines and can appear anywhere. The site owners have no control over where it appears once it is posted and online. Obviously it is not wise to post personal information that you wouldn't want to be public information. Be careful, be safe, and thank Bucfann (purposely misspelled) for bringing this to your attention.

Thanks, babe, for clearing this up. I knew you would have the answer re: search engines.

They suck.

You just found out about this? Jees - I thought you knew that Buc - it the one way that I have found to be able to see profiles of people who have been around for awhile... Unfortunate - but true....

As jami95 said (or alluded to), anything you say or put on the internet is searchable - and therefore findable.. It's why I haven't given many specifics on anything I talk about either....

rm_bucfannn replies on 6/10/2006 9:35 am:
I KNOW things can be found anywhere. But, I didn't realize the magnitude of it. So, call me slow... or even ignorant.

So, now, I am going to be much more careful...

Well, search engines can be a pain at times. But without them we wouldn't be having this conversation or soooooooo much fun... ... We just have to be cautious about protecting our privacy and security.

So much for anonymity and privacy. You might as well add a picture showing your face for all to see, because a search in Google using just the handle leaves little else to find!

My A F F/Passion profile came up (so much for standard membership)... my posts came up (I can live with that)... my articles came up (I can live with that too)... and a whole lot more under other handles I have used in the past (that’s the worrying bit)!

And it's not hard to find email addresses and phone numbers.

I should add that not every ‘handle’ works, but quite a lot of members do show at least the profile page and some even get 2-3 pages of information!

It’s more than a bit of a worry!

Yep, I agree. I don't even know if being prudent would help....
