My romantic moment

It was a Caribbean cruise. I was in St Thomas and spent the day in Charlotte Amalie. When I returned to the ship and entered my stateroom, I found a telegram had been slipped under the door. Curious, I slit the envelope and read the contents. The message consisted of but two words: "Green Shutters." It wasn't signed.

I wondered who knew I was on this particular ship in the middle of the Caribbean. And who would even know how to contact me via telegraph to the ship? It was a mystery.

Deciphering the message "Green Shutters" was not difficult. There's a bar named Green Shutters in Nassau, our next port of call. It's a short walk from the dock and is frequented by ship crews. I had been there several times.

Needless to say, when we docked in Nassau two days later, I made a beeline to Green Shutters. I walked in to find Lyn, a red head Irish woman with a twinkle in her eye. She's a casino manager who works on various ships. I used to date her whenever she was in Fort Lauderdale. We hadn't seen each other in several years, and had lost contact.

A mutual friend had told Lyn she had seen me wandering the alleys of Charlotte Amalie. Our ships were scheduled to be in Nassau the same day and Lyn sent the wire. Lyn didn't turn out to be the love of my life, but this was the most romantic thing that ever happened to me. To this day, I still have that now yellowing piece of paper!

It truly is a small world. Sometime in a future post I'll tell you about the time I took a red-eye flight to Rio de Janeiro, boarded the brand new Queen Mary 2, walked into a bar on the ship for the very first time and was greeted by name by the barmaid.

(Oh, BTW this was my 50th post. Big Whoop!)

I love small world stories, I've got 'em from all over.

My all time favorite perfume was the Amalie perfume oil---not the spray. OMG, that was the sexiest, most sensual (but light) perfume I ever wore. Men used to stop me all the time and ask me what I was wearing. I used to order it from St. Thomas---until the hurricane took the perfume factory away and they no longer produce it.

Maybe you know someone with connections to an extra bottle or two of the perfume oil, Boomer? Hmmmmmm? Pleeesssssseeeeee?!

I'll be in St Thomas twice more this year. I'll sniff around for you.
