Life of an Intern

It started about five years ago.

I landed an internship with a national broadcast news operation -- a dream come true for a young journalist. I was originally assigned to work the phones with the rest of the intern hoard, but a mistake I found in a story just before airtime my first day on the job got me noticed by several of the higher-ups. Apparently I saved the parent company a couple million dollars that day, simply by fixing one little line that almost certainly would have resulted in a monstrous libel suit.

The next day, the lead anchor asked that I be assigned to work directly with him. I took full advantage of the opportunity, coming in early and volunteering to work as late as my new boss did, often well past midnight. The experience couldn't be beat -- meeting people and learning things I never would have merely by working 9 to 5 answering phones.

I kept a diary -- perhaps not as faithfully as I should have -- and I've used those recollections to provide some background to my current situation. Read on and I'll tell you all about it ....
