don't forget me when I'm gone.

I have loved you for so long, don't forget me when I'm gone...
it's never been wrong.

I'll miss you when you're gone. Jumping the big puddle to the little village whence you came. I'll remember the things we learned from each other. I'll hope to not ever forget that we started with nothing. That little itty bitty 700 square foot house we rented in Alabama. No furniture, no dishes. A 25 dollar tv hooked up to a vcr. The computer set up on the floor. The lawn chair that we took turns sharing until it just gave up. lol.
I'll remember the joy with which we started to accumulate our possessions. the first sofa. A new tv. Satalite dish, cause it was cheaper than cable. I'll always keep this last coffee table that we made, the only one of the three that we still have. (2 x 4 legs with a plywood top, covered with green popsicle sticks).
I'll remember that first brand new car. A red 98 cavalier. Stick shift, fun car . I'll remember when we lived for 2 years and our entertainment every week was a Papa Johns pizza, cheese sticks, and 5 video's for 5 days for 5 bucks.
We worked well together then.
I'll remember the first house we bought. Brand new, a little above our reach but we did it. New furniture. A great bedroom suite to finally replace that air matress we slept on for 3 years.
I'll remember kitty and seymour, Hemi and Sassy. I'll never forget Satanic Sarah. We had some great animals.
The little lake we'd take the dogs to run out in the woods of 'Bama.
Trout fishing on American Lake in Washington while my big clumsy dog loped along around me. Remember when I caught the biggest fish of my life? Super Bowl sunday, and in my excitement I locked the keys in the trunk? Then Igot mad at you cause you didn't have your spare keys, lol. Sorry about that.
I'll remember driving accross the country with you in a big truck. Your 5' british butt could move a semi too! lol. And then... I'll remember the morning of 9-11. I'll remember first learning you were pregnant, and the boy you carried for us. I'll remember the hardship of having to part with our house and return here to Oklahoma. Moving in with my parents. Going 13,000 dollars in debt within 4 months. My getting diabetes. Then the next day the company I worked for went bankrupt.
We survived that. Our marriage didn't make it, I'm sorry as can be about that. But the benefits from our divorce are too numerous to mention. We are both great parents now, and wonderful friends. We've been there for each other when nobody else would understand or, could understand, what we were both trying to do.

Just don't forget me when I'm gone. I'm making a vow, here tonight... that I'll only remember the happy memories.

Don't forget me when I'm gone...
my heart would break.

Take care of yourself, our son, and know that God will always be looking out for you and Danny.
Your best friend,

That is a wonderful vow to make, to remember only the positive stuff. You really are a great guy even though you just made me really, really sad.

Hugs to such a wonderful man. It takes a man to be able to write words like that mean it.
