Ugh

Ok well, I am figuring a few things out, hopefully I get this new job then I can put more money away for my new video camera... Might have to buy it used, but hey as long as its good. I have recently aquired a film camera, really really nice one, since my parents got their new digi cam, I was handed this one, which isnt too bad becaue I used it for my photography classes so I have it down pat pretty good. Right now I really really want to get in a photoshoot, but its hard finding women. I was hoping to find someone to do black and white photography, but totally and completely tasteful and elegant sort of thing. If I get this job I might try and book studio time and see if I can find someone for it, even if they just covered the photo costs and studio costs, I would do it for free. Plus if I get to use the digi cam I can photoshop everything. I just need some sort of work right now, its hard just sitting around and doing nothing... Its even harder trying to get in with people in the porn industry around here. If I get into the Toronto film school then I might get a good deal like that, hopefully. SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME WORK!!! lol

Peace and love <3
Kelly

Welcome to bloggland Kelly!

I hope you find what you are looking for on this site. As a neighbor of yours not too far to the south, let me just say this, "Pass the poutine please."

I feel for you Filly69, but don't rush into decisions about work too hastily. The type of work you want to get into is very cut throat and ppl won't hesitate to rip you off. I've been a photographer for a long time and often see ppl desparate to get work. I will always work with reputable models and more speciffically those who are willing to turn down work if necessary. Don't rush honey, you'll find your pot of gold.

There is a photo club in Long Beach that was started over 25 years ago. The club is a non-profit organization run by really really "old guys". They use an agency called World Modelling Agency to obtain all their photo shoot models.

The club shoots nude models, which can be very expensive. When I was part of the club, it cost $15 to "become a member", some annual fee ($50 I think) and $70 per photo shoot (held one a weekend per month). The club has not been as active lately, probably because some of the members running the place have moved on (died maybe?). Their photo shoots are now once every 2 months and I guess the costs have gone up.

The benefit of such a club is priceless. For one, these guys don't care WHO you are in the porn/modelling business. They just want you to arrive on time and do what you are paid to do (pose for 15 to 20 photographers for 4 hours). Watching them handle primadonnas is an education all by itself.

These guys also have more money than sense sometimes. This means they have all the latest equipment and are proud to let others look and play (just be careful). I was allowed to use high-end lighting kits I could never afford and test out the latest in digital technology (back when digital SLRs were just hitting the market).

Like any hobbiests/enthusiasts, these guys were helpful with "what works" and "what doesn't" advice. Ever tried to get a 20 shot nude modelling sequence from a woman in a bikini before? It's not as easy as you might think. Ever handle an amateur model who is clueless about what to do? These guys have done and seen it all, so it was easy to just sit back and "learn".

Look for a model photography club in your area. Pooling resources is a great way to get things rolling. Also, there is "respect in numbers". Only the high-end porn companies in the Hollywood area use World Modelling Agency to find "new talent". They laugh everyone else out of the building, except the club I talked about, of course.

Good luck and I hope you get everything you want out of photography!
