Musical Dreamin'

I started Stained Sheets all those months ago to record the disturbing dreams I was having. I still have them, but they're not as frequent, and usually not as disturbing.

Took a late nap this afternoon and dreamed... of music!

WTF? I woke up with an original song my mind had composed during my sleep. It was very 80s style with a thumping electronics and bass driven rhythm and a women's chorus singing the refrain.

Anyone else ever have this happen, or ever hear of it happening? Or is it just another sign of an impending total loss of sanity?

I think it's a sign of extreme creativity. But that pic you got for your profile? That's a sign of an impending total loss of sanity.

Yep. It is.

i have had some pretty creative dreams, but none that good are you getting enough of a creative outlet elsewhere in your life? maybe your mind is trying to get you to face the music. . .

This blog is my creative outlet. I would think it's enough since it's far more than most people get.

Once I fell asleep on an iPod. Does that count?

For a long time, I slept with a pad right next to the bed. Why? I had a dream where I invented the greatest thing ever. I woke up at 3 AM and thought, wow, I can't wait to market it! I didn't write it down, went back to sleep and it was gone in the morning.

I don't see you making your fortune through product marketing. A book perhaps? Or a website where people pay you like, a buck, to be insulted in a creative way, Don Rickles-style!

I get night music all the time. The unfortunate thing is my brain refuses to rewind and play back!

Oddly

At least this happens to other people too.

Absolutely! I write music, books, plays, etc in my dreams. They seem so awesome but when I wake up and think more about them...they always suck.

A play?!? Cool!

super that you acknowledge them as you do....

I've had it happen and I used to sleep with a walkman cassette player with a built in stereo mic on it to capture as much of what I could bring back from the dream with.

But the coolest thing is meeting people I've never met before in dreams and a few months down the line I then meet them in the flesh. I met my last long term girlfreind that way. When I saw her in real life there was no doubt it was her.

Yeah, ive had it happen. Once I thought I created an entire symphony. It had a very western feel to it. Very Good, Bad, and the Ugly ish.

And then did the Ramones open up? 'Cause that would be cool!
