Monsters in the Attic

Spent this weekend with the brothers at momses putting new insulation in the attic.

Ah... the things we found!

First edition, 1957, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," the creepier Grinch, before the Chuck Jones extreme make over.

Old toys, Star Wars, Jack in the Box (the fast food joint) meal toys, my old stuffed gorilla.

Report cards, school pictures, test results proving I truly am adopted and my brother J is clinically retarded.

Clothes, my grandfather’s kilt, my ‘rents 60s & 70s polyester, my own 80s new wave clothes, Snoopy pillow cases.

And this... my first work of fiction. I remember writing this, must have been four - I could barely read & write.

I'm reproducing it below, as its own post. Title is the title I gave it as a boy. The original is done in crayon; color of text changes as it appears in the original - I couldn't stand doing things just one way, even back then.

Nice play on "Toys in the Attic" and "Big Ten Inch"! Sounds like you found an Ebay treasure trove! Have fun!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Now this is the difference in our ages. Your reference to Jack in the Box was regarding the FF joint. For me it would have been the thing that we cranked to play "Pop Goes the Weasel" until the clown popped at and scared the shit out us and gave us nightmares. Now those were the good old days...

Thank you caressmewell.

[blog 1hotwahine] - Where'd you grow up, eh? They had JBs back then, as they had "Pop! Pop! Goes the Weasel" wind-up boxes when I was a kid.

I'm old enough the remember Jarts, Big Wheel, and big 12" GI Joe with kung-fu grip.

I'm also old enough to know how to take your box - properly closed and put away, slowly wind the little knob one note at a time until it finally pops; then carefully and slowly guide Jack back inside, secure the box, then start winding you up again, Puddles

[sise 5]Happy Thanksgiving!
