Attn: Single Canadian Women - I Am Available!

I can’t keep quiet anymore; there’s just too much unsanitude going on right now. Everytime I think Bush has lost it, and has done the dumbest, most inexplicable thing of his Presidency (Harriet Meiers anyone?), he keeps on talking.

Let’s start with the UAE port deal, shall we? Oh, I know, it’s old and has been talked to death, but there are facts that none of the big news agencies are talking about, and the analysis of the issue has been from a political standpoint, if any analysis has been done at all.

Nonfact: DP World is endeavoring to purchase the rights from P & O to operate six ports on the east coast of the US.

Fact: P & O is the British firm that owns the operation rights to 23 ports in the US. DP World - heh heh... he said DP.... - is a company wholly owned by the state/government of the United Arab Emirates.

The media is grossly underreporting the scale of the deal. DP World intends to buy P & O outright. Yeah, the whole company. And since P & O operate 23 US ports from Maine to Texas, there are 17 ports in the deal that no one is talking about.

Among them are the Texas ports of Beaumont and Corpus Christi. What do we use these ports for? Bombs. Tanks. Jet fuel. You see, the military has a contract with P & O to use these ports for overseas deployment; fully 40% of all cargo for “Operation Iraqi Freedom” came through these two ports.

Nonfact: The UAE will finance the deal with their massive oil reserves.

Fact: The UAE will finance the deal on the global financial market. They are talking to Barclays Capital, and it’s unclear whether it will be a leveraged buy out, i.e., a bond issue, or an equity deal, i.e., an initial public offering of stock.

We’d better hope it’s the former; if there’s an IPO, anyone could take an ownership stake in the company... China, Bill the Gates, even Usama bin Laden if he was able to hide the source of funds. I could own a piece of DP World, for krysakes, and God knows what I’d do with that deep in my volcanic lair! It would be evil, I can tell ya that.

OK, this is where CNN, Fox, etc. stop their reporting, and I put on my wonk hat and continue to explain why all this matters.

It’s not so much the fear that the UAE will sneak bombs into the US, though they will be in a better position to do so if the deal goes through. It’s mostly the fact that they will see what’s going out! Take the Texas ports for example... “Huh, why are all these JDAM harnesses and daisy cutter bombs being loaded onto a freighter that is scheduled to go through the Panama Canal? Could the US be prepping for an operation in the DPRK? Lil’ Kim is a friend to the UAE, so we better tell him.”

I don’t want to get off-topic here, but to better emphasize my point, let’s look at PrincessKarma’s ‘hood. We already gave away the keys to that store... China owns both ports of entry of the Panama Canal. This is the most strategic waterway of the western hemisphere. Monroe Doctrine anyone?

Again, the danger with this situation is not that China will prevent our naval and commercial ships from entering, or blow up the ports. If a major conflict ever breaks out in Taiwan or mainland China, I guaran-fucking-tee that within an hour or two there will be SEALs in control of those ports joking about how the problem with killing Chinese is that you want to kill some more an hour later.

The threat is that they get to see every ship that enters and exits the Canal. “Look at all those destroyers entering from the western port... we thought they were in the Sea of Japan, but apparently it’s clear.” “That oil tanker is displacing less water leaving the Canal than when it entered, why is that? What did they do with the oil?”

This kind of intel is important to those who may not have our best wishes at heart. This sort is one of their best sources of intel since they don't have satellites. We pretty much have a monopoly on spy sat intel, and will enjoy this monopoly for at least another decade.

So, you see how this matters... what the implications are? UAE doesn’t have to put its guys on the ground loading and unloading. They don’t even need to be at the port at all! All they need is some Transylvanian vampire puppet with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in the tower going, “One... two... three... THREE Nimitz Class Carriers! MWUAHAHAHA!”

Jeez, Voodoo doll.. you just totally ruined a little piece of my childhood memories. I'll never see Count Von Count the same way again.

The US Gov't is definitely poised to take over the Canal again at the slightest opportunity, that's why the Panamanian Gov't downplays the incursions by the Colombian guerrillas so much. Looking at it from a *ick* Republican *retch* POV *urk*, it's a damn shame nobody really sat down to think before the transfer and renegotiated the military bases, if they'd moved to Darien the Colombian guerrillas might have changed strategies years ago.

Oh, and you'd usually be wanting more Chinese after half an hour, sweetie That MSG really leaves the system hungry for more.

Beef chow fun, anyone?

what amazes me is that it keeps on happening. why can't he be stopped? something is amiss, and no one with power cares quite enough. we will all end up losing our freedoms because of national apathy.

Heh. You read my mind. This is one of the political rants I haven't had the energy to write out. Pretty much, every port in NY and NJ is part of this deal. The entire port of NYC is part of this deal. So, people are nervous, especially considering two of the 9/11 hijackers were citizens of the UAE. Add the fact that the Bush administration has been instilling massive xenophobia into the people of the country and well, no one is happy. Some of his staunchest Republican supporters are screaming at this moment. Bush's original reaction to the deal was to tell Congress he's in charge and this is what he wants, so shut the fuck up.

Oh, the 45 day wait for Congressional review? Nope. The deal is closing on Monday, according to Reuters. Congratulations. As of Monday, Dubai owns some of our most important ports. Bush lied again. Why hasn't Congress impeached this man yet?

BTW, Dubai Ports World is an active part of the Arab boycott of Israel. They're trying to censor Lou Dobbs for trying to tell the truth and question the deal. The Washington Post reported on Feb 27:

But in a Dec. 13 intelligence assessment of the company and its owners in the United Arab Emirates, the Coast Guard warned: "There are many intelligence gaps, concerning the potential for DPW or P&O assets to support terrorist operations, that preclude" the completion of a thorough threat assessment of the merger.

"The breadth of the intelligence gaps also infer potential unknown threats against a large number of potential vulnerabilities," says the document, released by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Bush is saying this deal makes economic sense. Yeah and when we have another attack, is everyone going to say the Democrats not being tough on foreigners is the reason again? Bush is an idiot and said he would veto any measure that tried to block the deal. I hope Israel isn't hoping any shipments from NY are going to get to them now.

Interestingly Republican Duncan Hunter spoke of Dubai in term of
« bazaar for terrorist nations ». Dubai indeed has the reputation to be « the place » for the expedition of « anonymous merchandise » such as nuclear centrifuges... Let's not forget that the UAE recognized the legitimacy of the Talliban in 2001, regardless of the two nationals involved in the 9/11 attack !
And what does Peter Pace really mean by an « ideal military cooperation » ????!!!!!

PrincessKarma - Jeez, Voodoo doll.. you just totally ruined a little piece of my childhood memories. I'll never see Count Von Count the same way again.

Apparently youse guys never got Greg the Bunny with Count Blah.

[blog snatchmatch71] - agreed. I don't understand the apathy either. Much as I hate the Boomers and their self-absorbed perspective, they did get pissed in the 60s and early 70s and their activism did help to end the war then.

spinmedown - US interests, I believe.

[blog 1hotwahine] - anytime I'm available, madam.

MissAnnThrope - yep. (How is it that you and I are always on the same side of an argument. I'm not THAT liberal, am I?)

Vevixen - yep. (Slow down though, hon; take a breath.)

Voodoo, you're a liberal in denial. You might consider yourself middle of the road or even Libertarian. It is possible to be a liberal Libertarian and a Liberal Libertarian. But you are a liberal. Deal with it.

Would a Liberal favor McCain over just about anyone in the Democratic party? Would a Liberal have favored Pataki over Cuomo?

[blog Ellenback] - yeah, well that's the joke, eh? I grew up in a border town and relate to all things Canadian, esp. Canadian women. Tried to get a work visa about 10 yrs ago, but your gov't said "Non!" and then they said "Non!"
