my first blog

i'm really quite shy. Every time I get into a room I end up just sitting there. I mean a part of me just wants to talk to everyone but of course I know I have too many problems starting a conversation. I get so nervous around women, I'm always worried I'm going to say the wrong thing or say something stupid. Of course and waiting for someone to talk to me is like watching paint dry sometimes. Other times I feel there is just too many people in the room to get a nanosec of a word in. Sigh......

Been there! The hard part is getting to the point where other people's opinion of what you say and do doesn't affect you. And it shouldn't, unless you work for them or something. It's your reality, they're just visiting.

Try to imagin how you would act if it was your party, in your house. Then, everytime you're in a party or a club, pretent your throwing it! Just walk in, throw your arms up and say "My home!". Silly, but it works. And as for an opinion of you, 1) they'll at least have one to remember you by and 2) it's likely to be positive

As I see it, you have three easy choices: do nothing; take a deep breath and "go for it" - anxiety and all; or, join a small group that relates to a hobby that you might have (a writer's club, sci-fi club, boating club, etc.). By joining a club, you will instantly meet people, you will have something in common and conversation will be easier, and you will have fun. Good luck Dude!

a little eye contact goes a long way. look someone in the eye and smile; you'll be friends in no time. You don't have to do anything you don't want to.

I soooooooooo understand how you feel. BUT... Shy is cool...poor, pityful me will never get you anywhere you really want to be. Suppose you found out that you only had 3 days left to live...what would you do? Certainly at that point there is nothing to lose so caution gets cast to the wind, and you do it all, say it all, and live it all. We never see the wonderful gifts inside ourselves that others do, and I promise you that you have plenty of gifts and talents to offer as well. So I am stepping out on a limb and giving you a "3-day" sentence...so go for it and let me know the results.
