Pluto, and other matters of long distance interest...

OK, it's official now: Pluto is NOT a planet.

I'll confess to some disappointment - but also to a certain degree of relief. Pluto is different from other "planets" - it's orbit is eccentric and it actually dips inside the orbit of Neptune and is at an angle to the plane of the rest of the planets - sort of more like a huge captured comet with moons than anything else. (OK, fine - I also find string theory fascinating - and quantum mechanics somehow satisfying...) I'm glad it's been granted something of a special status as a "minor planet" since there's no question it occupies a stable place in the solar system and has planet-like properties.

What does this have to do with ANYTHING and why the hell am I going on about it in what is - more usually - a somewhat more sensually oriented site?

Strange as it may sound I think it gives us a new cosmology of the soul and heart - Its OK to understand that there are those relationships and physical encounters that are real and influencial parts of our perception of ourselves in the cosmos and those that are, while important, peripheral to our understanding of ourselves and our place in the emotional/sexual universe. The "minor planets" are not unimportant, they're simply not a definining element in our emotional/sexual solar systems...

Oh damn...I've really wandered off the reservation on this one...I get it - but I'm afraid I've expressed it all rather poorly...
